Forget resolutions and diets… the start of a new year means just one thing in movie world: awards season - and it all kicks off with the Golden Globes 2024.
Having battled several issues in recent years including diversity and ethical voting practices, this year’s ceremony aims to change things up, promising to deliver “the most ethically diverse of all the major awards shows.”
Behind-the-scenes shake-ups aside, the Golden Globes 2024 is set to celebrate and reward some of the best movie and TV offerings released over the past year. Want to find out who’ll win big? Read on for all the information you need about the 2024 Golden Globe Awards.
When are the Golden Globes 2024?
The 81st Golden Globe Awards will take place at 1am GMT on Monday 8 January. The ceremony will be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
Where to watch Golden Globes 2024 in the UK?
Unfortunately, you can't — we wish we had better news.
While the 81st Golden Globes will be available to stream live on Paramount+ this service will only be available for subscribers in the United States.
Who will host the Golden Globes 2024?
The 2024 Golden Globe Awards will be hosted by stand-up comedian Jo Koy. You may recognise him from his appearances on Chelsea Handler’s E! show Chelsea Lately and from his various stand-up panel stints available on both Netflix and Comedy Central.
Speaking about his new job, Koy said he relished the opportunity to do his family proud: "I've stepped onto a lot of stages around the world in my career, but this one is going to be extra special. I'm so excited to be hosting the Golden Globes this year," he said in a statement.
"This is that moment where I get to make my Filipino family proud. Mahal Kita (Google it)!"
Last year, the 2023 Golden Globes was hosted by comedian Jerrod Carmichael while 2022 saw no ceremony held at all due to boycotts over a lack of diversity in its voter memberships.
In previous years, notable celebrity hosts have included Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey and Ricky Gervais.
Who is nominated for the Golden Globes 2024?
The full list of nominations for the 81st Golden Globe Awards was released on Monday, 11 December 2023 with a host of cinema and telly’s finest offerings receiving nods.
Leading the way are Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and TV hit Succession, each of which is neck-and-neck with nine nominations followed by Chris Nolan’s Oppenheimer with eight nods
Meanwhile, Martin Scorsese’s lengthy epic Killers of the Flower Moon is hot on their heels with seven nominations sitting alongside Yorgos Lanthimos’ new one Poor Things featuring Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo.
Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein biopic Maestro, courtroom drama Anatomy of a Fall and romantic drama Past Lives also received nominations although early rumblings could suggest that Paul Giamatti’s The Holdovers could emerge as a left-field favourite.
When it comes to TV, FX’s nail-biting restaurant drama The Bear received five mentions as did Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez’s comedy series Only Murders in the Building.
