How Zoolander 2 Landed Its Amazing Cameos

The first ‘Zoolander’ was packed with amazing cameos including David Bowie, Posh Spice, and Donald Trump plus a host of huge names from the fashion world, so the bar was well and truly raised for the sequel.

Fans suspected that they’d struggle to match that stellar line up for ‘Zoolander 2′, but from Susan Boyle and Ariana Grande to Justin Bieber and Benedict Cumberbatch, the new film is positively crammed with recognisable faces.

The creative team behind the film including star and director Ben Stiller and writer Justin Theroux say stars were literally throwing themselves at them to get involved.

“We were slipping on famous people who wanted to be involved,” says Theroux in our video above.

“We were getting incoming calls. When I mentioned what I was working on, people would go ‘oh my god, is there anything i could do?’. Actors, models, or designers, everyone!”

One of the most striking cameos comes courtesy of Benedict Cumberbatch, an androgynous model named All, and Stiller reveals the ‘Sherlock’ star was one of the easiest guest performers to arrange.

“We had the character,” explains Stiller, “And Benedict mentioned about being in the movie, and so we put them both together.”

Sting also appears in the movie - although we won’t spoil the surprise of how he’s involved - and Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig who play the film’s villains Mugatu and Atoz, admit they were in awe of the Police frontman on set.

“We were a little starstruck by Sting,” says Ferrell, “We actually got to run in to him at the hotel.”

“Yes, we touched his face. He didn’t like it,” adds Wiig.

‘Zoolander 2′ is coming to UK cinemas on Friday, 12 February.
