Howard County police have arrested and charged a Baltimore man with murder in last week’s shooting death of his ex-girlfriend in a Columbia parking garage, the department said Monday.

Jawon Stanford Ferguson, 38, is charged with first- and second-degree murder in the June 23 death of Victoria Ann Santiago, 47, of Windsor Mill.

Police said Ferguson and Santiago had left a restaurant together and were headed to Santiago’s car in the two-story parking garage adjacent to 10201 Wincopin Circle when police said they believe Ferguson shot Santiago and fled.

Police said Santiago was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound inside the car around 9 p.m. June 23. She was transported to Howard County General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Police said they are still investigating the motive.

Ferguson was arrested Saturday and has also been charged with a weapon violation. He is being held without bond at the Howard County Detention Center. Ferguson does not have an attorney listed on online court records.
