Howard County Police: Two people killed in separate traffic crashes in Elkridge, Ellicott City

Jun. 6—Two people were killed in separate traffic crashes, Howard County Police said Monday.

A man's body was discovered by a civilian around 8 a.m. in a wooded area on the westbound side of Route 99 near Weatherstone Drive in Ellicott City. The man was identified as Michael Kevin Fitzpatrick, 54, of Ellicott City. Police believe Fitzpatrick was walking alongside or in the travel portion of the roadway when he was struck by a car and killed sometime Sunday night.

Route 99 is closed while detectives investigate the scene. Police ask anyone with information to call 410-313-STOP or email HCPDcrimetips@howardcountymd.gov.

A Baltimore woman was killed in a car crash around 6:35 a.m., police said. Latasha Maria Curtis Barrett, 38, was driving a 2007 Honda Civic and was stopped at a light on a ramp from Interstate 95 southbound to Route 175 westbound in Elkridge. Police said Barrett accelerated through the red light and was struck by a 2017 Hyundai Elantra that was traveling westbound on Route 175.

Emergency medical services pronounced Barrett dead at the scene. The woman who was driving the Hyundai was taken to Shock Trauma with injuries that are not life-threatening.
