All Howard County public schools are closing three hours early Tuesday, due to forecasted inclement weather, according to a news release from the school system.

The National Weather Service declared a flood watch through Wednesday morning in the southeast portion of Howard County, with periods of moderate to heavy rain Tuesday afternoon and evening and expected rainfall totals of up to 4 inches in some areas. A wind advisory is also in effect in the region, with southeast winds 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph expected, according to the National Weather Service.

All aftercare programs in Howard public schools sponsored by the Columbia Association and the Howard County Department of Recreation & Parks are canceled, as are all Tuesday evening activities involving students and staff. All community-sponsored programs held in school buildings are also canceled.

High winds are expected to continue on Wednesday, but it is expected to be mostly sunny with highs in the upper 40s.
