Howard-Suamico Superintendent Damian LaCroix to retire after this year. Successor announced

HOWARD — After 19 years, Howard-Suamico School District Superintendent Damian LaCroix is retiring after this school year.

LaCroix announced his retirement at Monday's school board meeting. The Howard-Suamico School Board selected Deputy Superintendent Mark Smith to succeed LaCroix, starting July 1.

"The Howard-Suamico School District will forever hold a special place in my heart," LaCroix said in a media release. "It has been a tremendous honor and privilege to work alongside incredible staff, to serve a committed board of education and to partner with supportive families and volunteers in helping each student pursue their full potential."

Smith started at the Howard-Suamico School District in 2016 and was appointed as the deputy superintendent in 2019. Before coming to Howard-Suamico, Smith worked as a teacher, coach, principal and in a variety of executive leadership roles at the Green Bay School District.

“This opportunity is a dream come true and it is my privilege to step into the space as leader of this incredible organization, in partnership with our students, families, staff and community,” Smith said in a media release.
