Howell, Fowlerville officials declare snow emergency Wednesday

Residents in Livingston County are encouraged to stay off the roads due to snow, high winds and frigid temperatures during a snowstorm on Friday, Dec. 23, 2022.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY — City officials declared a snow emergency Wednesday after receiving several inches of snow.

According to the National Weather Service, Howell can expect to receive 4 to 6 inches of snow Wednesday and into tonight. The heaviest snowfall is expected from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday when as much as 1 inch could fall.

"Travel conditions will deteriorate considerably during the afternoon into the evening commute," the NWS said.

The National Weather Service said Livingston County is under a Winter Weather Advisory until 10 p.m. Wednesday.

The NWS said observed snowfall in the Detroit area as of early Wednesday afternoon was 3 to 5 inches.

The Howell snow emergency went into effect 2 p.m. Wednesday and will be in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday. According to the city, all vehicles have to be removed from streets for snow and ice to be safely removed.

The Fowlerville declaration is from 2:45 p.m. Wednesday to noon Thursday. The declaration states all cars should be removed from streets if possible or they may be towed.

Any vehicles left in the road during will be ticketed and towed at the expense of the vehicle's owner.

Therese Cremonte, emergency management director for Livingston County, said the storm is typical for Michigan. Today, officials are focused on informing the public to stay safe while outside and while driving.
