Penn still on top in Tribune's latest high school boys basketball power rankings

The boys high school basketball season continues with a full slate of games throughout the week.

Last week, Mishawaka Marian was once again in a top-five matchup, and had a much better response from its first attempt against Penn. In the Northern Lakes Conference, one rising team's 11-game winning streak surprisingly came to an end at the hands of Goshen.

Here is how we rank the area's top-10 teams heading into February

1. Penn (16-1, 7-0 NIC)

Last week's results: Wins against SB Saint Joe (86-69), SB Riley (76-61), Goshen (80-41)

This week's games: Feb. 2 vs. Glenn

Penn, ranked No. 2 in 4A, has won 10 consecutive games since losing to Ben Davis during the Hall of Fame Classic.

2. NorthWood (14-2, 5-0 NLC)

Last week's results: Won against Warsaw (53-36)

This week's games: Feb. 2 vs. Concord

The Panthers, who moved up to No. 1 in 3A last week, have won six consecutive games since losing to Ben Davis in the Hall of Fame Classic championship.

3. Mishawaka Marian (16-2, 5-1 NIC)

Last week's results: Wins over Glenn (52-41), SB Washington (69-49)

This week's games: Feb. 2 at Bremen

Marian, ranked No. 2 in 3A, responded well to its loss at Penn, with two big conference wins this past week. Senior point guard Deaglan Sullivan also surpassed the 1,500-career point mark during the Knights' win over Washington

4. South Bend Washington (14-3, 6-2 NIC)

Last week's results: Won against Crown Point (54-48) Lost to Mish. Marian (69-49)

This week's games: Feb. 2 vs. SB Riley

Washington, ranked No. 4 in 3A, saw its six-game winning streak come to an end at the hands of Marian, but quickly bounced back the next night in a win over Crown Point.

5. Mishawaka (14-3, 4-1 NLC)

Last week's results: Won against Fairfield (57-45), Lost to Goshen (47-44/OT)

This week's games: Feb. 2 at Warsaw

Mishawaka, ranked No. 13 in 4A, saw its 11-game winning streak come to an end in Friday's overtime loss at Goshen.

6. South Bend Riley (9-9, 5-2 NIC)

Last week's results: Lost to Tipp. Valley (50-46), Penn (76-61)

This week's games: Feb. 2 at SB Washington

The Wildcats dropped both games this past week, ending their two-game winning streak. Riley is 3-3 over its past six contests.

7. John Glenn (10-7, 4-4 NIC)

Last week's results: Won against SB Adams (57-47), Lost to Mish. Marian (52-41)

This week's games: Feb 2 at Penn

Glenn ended its two-game losing streak with Friday night's win against South Bend Adams. The Falcons have won three of their past five games.

8. Goshen (8-7, 2-3 NLC)

Last week's results: Won against Mishawaka (47-44/OT), Lost to Penn (80-41)

This week's games: Feb. 2 at Plymouth

Goshen's overtime win over Mishawaka was sealed by a Gage Worthman 3 with less than three seconds remaining. The RedHawks have won three of their past five games.

9. South Bend Saint Joseph (8-9, 5-2 NIC)

Last week's results: Won against New Prairie (62-46), Lost to Penn (86-69)

This week's games: Jan. 31 at Culver Academy, Feb. 3 vs SB Clay

Saint Joe ended its three-game skid with Friday's win at New Prairie. Saint Joe has lost three of its past four games heading into this week's action.

10. Concord (9-7, 3-2 NLC)

Last week's results: Won against Wawasee (48-39), Lost to LaPorte (58-34)

This week's games: Feb. 2 at NorthWood

Concord rebounded from its loss to Warsaw with a conference win over Wawasee. The Minutemen have won seven of their past nine games since their 2-5 start to the season.
