—Lackawanna League play begins this week with a pair of showdowns in Division I. No. 4 Scranton visits No. 3 Abington Heights on Monday, and Abington Heights heads to top-ranked Scranton Prep on Thursday.

—Since its 0-2 start, No. 7 Montrose has won five straight and opens Division IV play Thursday at Susquehanna.

—Despite Friday's loss to Pittston Area, No. 6 Wallenpaupack established itself as the Division II favorite with convincing tournament wins over Western Wayne and Honesdale.

—SOARING COMETS: Abington Heights has started the season impressively, especially with wins over Executive Education and Emmaus. The Comets open league season at Scranton and home with their annual rivalry game against Scranton Prep.

—DIVISION III TIPS OFF: There are five teams from Division III in the poll which makes for an intriguing opening night Tuesday in the Lackawanna League. Carbondale Area is at Riverside and Holy Cross is at undefeated Old Forge to get things started.

—RIVERSIDE RETURNS: The Vikings started the season with an injury and endured another in the early weeks. Still, they captured the Taylor Lions Tournament and are back in the poll at No. 10.
