HS FOOTBALL: Seven area players named to PFW Class A All-State team

Dec. 29—Seven area football players were honored Thursday by being named to the Pennsylvania Football Writers Class A All-State Team.

Mahanoy Area had three of those selections, as senior offensive tackle David Sanchez, senior linebacker Ben Manley and junior Colm McGroarty made the 41-player Class A squad selected by football writers and broadcasters from across the state, including the Republican Herald.

Also honored on the Class A team were a pair of Tri-Valley players, senior defensive tackle Jacob Scheib and senior linebacker Reece Huntzinger, Minersville senior defensive back Brock Polinsky and Marian junior defensive lineman Jesse Rodino.

Steel-High quarterback Alex Erby was named the Class A Player of the Year, while the Rollers' Andrew Erby was named Class A Coach of the Year.

The Class AA and 3A teams will be released later today, while All-State teams in classes 4A-6A will be unveiled Friday.
