HS LACROSSE: WVC coaches announce all-star teams

Jun. 13—Delaware Valley defender Kyle Smirman, girls coach Bernadine Salak, and Abington Heights boys coach Andrew Billen received postseason awards as the Wyoming Valley Conference released its coaches all-star teams for boys and girls lacrosse.

Smirman was honored as the Defensive Player of the Year, while Billen earned the Sportsmanship Award in boys lacrosse. Salak, who guided Delaware Valley to the District 2 Class 3A championship game, was named the WVC girls Coach of the Year.

Delaware Valley, which won the District 2 Class 3A boys championship, had four players selected for the first team and three named for the second team.

Peyton LaRocco, a sophomore attack for the Warriors; Paulie Weinrich, a midfielder; Smirman; and goalie Connor Gaughan represent the Warriors on the first team. Attack Brady Quinn, midfielder Xander Kelly, and faceoff specialist Justin Kalitsnik were selected for the second team.

Scranton Prep defensive midfielder Liam Barrett made the first team, while Abington Heights had three on the second team, including freshman attack Gavin Anders, defensive midfielder Mark Lynott, and defender Jake Grimaldi.

Wyoming Seminary's Jack Herron was named the Offensive Player of the year, and coach Terry Herron was the Coach of the Year for the boys team.

Scranton Prep had four players selected to the first team on the WVC girls team.

Attack Annie Johnson, midfielder Alexa Kleinberger, defender Eleanor Farrell, and goalie Jayna McIntyre lead the first team.

Abington Heights midfielder Caly Yankow, attack Bella DeRiggi and defender LeAnna Waters, Delaware Valley attack Leah Weinreb, defender Carrigan McCormack, utility Ava Kraszewski, and North Pocono midfielder Amaya Monacelli were also named to the first team.

Crestwood's Isabella Caporuscio earned the Player of the Year honor.

Abington Heights also had three players named to the second team. Midfielder Allie Rothenberger, defender Rylee Yankow, and goalie Ava Davis were honored.

Scranton Prep midfielder Claire McGrath, defender Aubrey Buttner, and North Pocono attack Norah Smith were also named to the second team.
