HS NOTEBOOK: Pace Setter AC to honor hoops players; PFN names all-state teams; Norris off to fast start

Jan. 1—The Pace Setter AC of NEPA will again award the "For Love of the Game" awards to a boy and girl basketball player from the Lackawanna League for the 2022-2023 season.

The award recognizes local players who exemplify dedication, commitment, overcoming adversity, and a special love of the game of basketball. A participant from any level of their school's basketball program can be eligible, and the head boys and girls coach varsity coaches can nominate their players by contacting Pace Setter director Ron Ulias at 570-575-0941 or via email at ru33bball@gmail.com.

A group of retired basketball coaches, referees, and administrators serve on the selection committee.

Scranton graduate Jason Shields and Western Wayne graduate Kaeli Romanowski were the inaugural winners of the awards after last season.

Football honors

Several Lackawanna Football Conference players were recognized on all-state teams selected by a coaches' vote conducted by the Pennsylvania Football News.

A first team and a second team were named in each classification.

In Class 2A, Lakeland tight end Lacota Dippre and Riverside kicker Nicholas D'Amico were on the first team, while Lakeland quarterback Dominico Spataro, Riverside receiver Reese Gaughan, linebacker Robbie Garvey, and Dunmore kicker Max Hunt were on the second team.

Scranton Prep guard Anthony Nicotera and Carbondale Area long snapper Chase Arthur earned first-team honors in Class 3A, and Scranton Prep linebacker Mick O'Malley and defensive athlete Aidan Colleran were on the second team.

In Class 4A, Honesdale defensive back Max Mickel made the first team, Delaware Valley linebacker Justin Kalitsnik and defensive back Ryder Machado made the first team, and Abington Heights punter Michael Hartshorn made the second team.
