4A Western Regional

Olympic High’s girls and Mallard Creek’s boys won N.C. 4A Western Regional championships Saturday.

Olympic’s girls finished with 104 points, well clear of Mallard Creek (89) and Asheville (54).

The Mallard Creek boys had 105 points, dominating the field. Ardrey Kell (72) was second.

Several Observer-area boys won two events: Mallard Creek’s Christian Dixon (100, 200); Ardrey Kell’s Xavier Branker (110, 300 hurdles); and Chambers’ Armon Wright (long jump, triple jump). And Mallard Creek won three of the four relay events.

On the girls side, Mallard Creek won two relay events and two area individuals doubled: Lauren Grose of Charlotte Catholic won the long jump and triple jump; and Ardrey Kell’s Tyler Glover won discus and shot put.

4A Midwest Regional

Cuthbertson’s boys and girls won regional championships Saturday.

Cuthbertson’s boys had 88 points, to top Mount Tabor (80.5) and Weddington (70). The Cavaliers girls had 134 points, well clear of Weddington (116) and Parkland Magnet (90).

Individually on the boys side, Reece Morgan of Cuthbertson won the 200- and 400-meters, Jacob Laney of Porter Ridge doubled in the 1,600 and 3,200 and Weddington’s Christopher Stewart won the shot put and discus.

On the girls side, Weddington’s Natalie Brown won shot put and discus. Cuthbertson’s Maya Studney won long jump and triple jump.

At East Rowan High School, Greensboro Dudley’s boys and girls swept the team titles. Central Academy was third in the boys race, and Northwest Cabarrus’ girls were third.

Individually, Lake Norman Charter’s Lily Yampolsky and Central Cabarrus’ Sydney Krause were dual-event winners. Yampolsky won the 800 and 1,600 meters. Krause doubled in the long jump and triple jump.

Individually, Pine Lake Prep’s Alessia Addo won the 200- and 400-meters. Teammate Stefania Williams also won two events (100 hurdles, triple jump)
