HS Roundup: Cambridge baseball edges Bellaire in extras

BELLAIRE — Keaton Kyser's two-out single in the top of the eighth inning brought home Garrett Carpenter for the winning run, as visiting Cambridge edged Bellaire 2-1 and improved to 3-0 after a Buckeye 8 win on Monday.

Jake Valentine earned the victory, fanning nine and allowing one run on three hits in seven innings, while Dawson Geese pitched a perfect eighth for the save.

Cambridge broke up a scoreless game in the third inning when Carpenter scored on a wild pitch, but the Big Reds answered in the home half with Heatherington's RBI single.

The Bobcats only had four hits with Carpenter collecting two singles and Caden Moore also hitting a single.

Buckeye Trail 24, Tuscarawas CC 0 (5 inn.): The Warriors (2-1) took advantage of 19 walks and four Saint errors in an Inter-Valley Conference win.

Braden Williams drilled a grand slam home run in a seven-run fifth for the Trail. He also singled, knocked in seven runs and scored three times, Issac Beaver added two hits and scored two runs, Cale Gazda had four RBIs and scored three runs, and Mason McQuain also came home three times to highlight the Trail effort.

Williams also earned the win, as four pitchers combined on a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts.

Coshocton 12, Meadowbrook 1: Winning pitcher Hudson Wesney tossed a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts and homered, doubled and brought in three runs on offense to lead the Redskins past the visiting Colts in Muskingum Valley League Small School Division play.

The Colts' only run came in the first inning. Easton Eibel led off the game by reaching on an error. He moved to second and third base on two passed balls then scored on a Coshocton error.

Gunner Davis held the Redskins scoreless for two innings before they scored five in the third, knocking Davis out of the game. He took the loss after giving up five runs on three hits with five strikeouts and four walks in three innings.

SOFTBALL

John Glenn 14, Maysville 4 (6 inn.): Sydney Marshall hit for the cycle and knocked in three runs, and the visiting Muskies (3-1) pounded out 18 hits in a MVL Big School Division decision.

Marshall hit a single in the first, a triple in the third, a double in the fourth and a three-run homer in the fifth. She also scored two runs, while Alivia Boothe doubled among her three hits and knocked in three runs, Sarah Wayne added a double and a single, and Ava Miller hit two singles and scored twice.

Hannah Bendle went 3-for-3 with four runs scored and two RBIs for the winners, while also picking up the victory in the circle. She scattered eight hits, allowed four runs and struck out five in a complete game.

Taylor Freeland doubled, singled and took the loss after giving up eight runs on nine hits in 2 1/3 innings, and Shyann Havens had two hits for Maysville.

Meadowbrook 21, Coshocton 0 (5 inn.): Winning pitcher Addy Sichina struck out nine and walked one in a no-hitter, as the Colts dropped the Lady 'Skins in MVL action.

Sichina also hit two singles, Jordyn Vargeson went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored, Sommer Ginn had a double with three RBIs, Addy Wiggins doubled, singled and knocked in three runs, and Alexx Combs and Laney Harper each had a single with a pair of RBIs in the victory.

Meadowbrook (2-3, 2-2) also took advantage of 14 walks and three Coshocton errors.

Bellaire 14, Cambridge 0: The Big Reds collected 14 hits and held the Lady Bobcats (0-3) to three hits in a Buckeye 8 win.

Abby Mann, Madison Johnson and Kenzi Hickman had Cambridge's hits, and Hickman took the loss, allowing 11 runs, seven earned, on 10 hits in two innings. She also had two strikeouts and two walks.

Tuscarawas CC 12, Buckeye Trail 2: The Lady Warriors suffered a road loss in IVC play, but no other information was available.

Emma Smith hit a two-run home run in the top of the fifth to pull the Lady Warriors within 3-2, but

Kylie Barnhart, Morgan Watson, Kaydence Starr, Andilyn Lowry and Samantha Jackson added singles, while Abby Hoover took the loss, allowing six runs, two earned, on three hits in four innings.

BOYS TENNIS

Marietta 3, Cambridge 2: The Bobcats came up short at Cambridge City Park, in a match that saw 6 tiebreakers and a 3 and 1/2 hour third singles, it was very competitive and equally matched, noted coach Tim Gibson.

Cambridge’s No. 1 singles Blade Bachman lost to Cyril Palaganas 5-7, 1-6, while No. 2 Caleb Stanberry from Cambridge also fell in a tight one 2-6, 7-5, 4-6 to Cyrus Palaganas, while Cambridge’s third singles Tuillio D’Aquila played outlasted Bhanu Thayaparan 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 in a grueling match.

First doubles for the Bobcats, James Goggin and Steeler Sylvis, lost in a first set tiebreaker to Mathew McIntire and Webb Hall 6-7 (7-9), 3-6, while second doubles Smith Sylvis and Trey Stottsberry from Cambridge won 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 10-8 over Brody Alexander and Ojash Gautam.

In JV action, Abdullah Kuhan & Baylon Rose won 9-8 (9-7), Jax Van Dyne and Rogan Johnson won 9-8 (7-4), Aiden Castello and Jacob Vincent, and Ian Martin won 6-0 in his singles match.

Cambridge dropped to 2-2 and hosts Claymont at 4:30 today.
