HS Roundup: John Glenn, New Lex, Philo baseball score late to grab wins

NEW CONCORD — Aaron Johnson singled home Justin Stambush and Jesse Driskel in the bottom of the seventh inning to give John Glenn a 3-2 walk-off victory over Morgan in a Muskingum Valley League baseball crossover on Thursday.

Both teams scored in the first inning then the Raiders took a 2-1 lead in the fifth when Coleman Welsh doubled home Tavian Myers.

Gunner Fox was steady on the hill for the Muskies (3-2 MVL), scattering seven hits and fanning three for a complete game victory, while Johnson had two of the team's seven hits and Colt Emerson doubled.

Logan Niceswanger doubled and singled, Owen McCoy and Myers also hit doubles and Carson Mummey took the loss in relief, allowing two runs on three hits in 2 1/3 innings. Nate Silvus started, giving up one run on four hits with three strikeouts and one walk in four innings for Morgan (4-2 MVL).

New Lexington 4, Tri-Valley 2: The Panthers (4-2 MVL) plated three runs in the top of the seventh to hand the Scotties (4-1) their first MVL loss.

Bentley Hanson's sac fly brought home Mason Pyle for the tying run in the seventh, while Josh Dold scored the go-ahead run on an error and Jerek Braglin singled home Garrett Blosser for an insurance run.

New Lex starter Isaac McGill, who had a single and a RBI, held the Scotties to two runs on three hits with seven strikeouts and five walks in 5 2/3 innings, while Brody Agriesti threw a perfect 1 1/3 innings of relief for the victory.

Daniel Huffman had a double and a RBI for Tri-Valley, while Kyler Brennen was charged with the loss, surrendering three runs on two hits with two strikeouts and two walks in 6 1/3 innings.

Philo 9, Coshocton 7: The Electrics (2-4) scored twice in the bottom of the sixth, as Case Fink came home on a wild pitch for the winning run, and Talon Preston singled home Griffin Wells for some insurance.

Fink finished with three hits and three runs scored, Garrett Tom had two singles and two runs scored, Searls singled twice and scored twice and Preston also doubled and knocked in two runs for the Philo offense. Eric Durant allowed one unearned run in two innings of relief to pick up the victory.

Travin Berry hit two singles and knocked in two runs and Coby Moore doubled and singled to lead the Redskins, while Riley Woodie suffered the loss in relief.

River View 10, Crooksville 0 (6 inn.): Winning pitcher Mack Wilson threw a three-hitter with nine strikeouts and three walks in the Black Bears' shutout.

Trace Davis belted a solo home run, Brody Shrimplin added a double, two singles and two runs scored, Mark Dickerson had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored, Ethan Jordan doubled and singled and Owen Emig also singled with a RBI as the Black Bears (5-1 MVL) pounded out 10 hits and took advantage of six Crooksville errors.

Trinton Cottrell had two hits, Daniel Chapman also singled and Bo White took the loss, allowing eight runs, five earned, on six hits with four strikeouts and four walks in four innings for the Ceramics (0-6).

Meadowbrook 11, Maysville 8: The Colts (2-4 MVL) scored 10 times over the final three innings to rally for a road win over the Panthers (0-6).

Casey Clendenning's two-out RBI double capped a four-run sixth to put Meadowbrook up 8-7 entering the final frame.

Kolton St. Clair had three hits with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored for the Colts, while Cayden Nicholson doubled with three RBIs, Easton Eibel swatted a triple, Tye Griffith also hit a double and Zayden Yeagle allowed two runs on three hits in 2 2/3 innings of relief to earn the victory.

Kamyn Walker collected two hits and three RBIs to pace Maysville, while Coen Fink had two hits and two runs scored, Alex Ray tripled with a RBI and Todd Saxton and Tyler Debolt each had a double and a RBI. Ryan Parmer took the loss, giving up eight runs on six hits with nine walks and seven strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.

Sheridan 10, West Muskingum 0 (6 inn.): Winning pitcher Colin Duffey held the Tornadoes to four hits with three strikeouts and two walks in a complete game win in a league crossover.

Reid Packer was 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored and Ryan Kuhn and Blake Turnes had two hits and two RBIs apiece for the Generals (4-0 MVL, 5-1), who scored five runs in the first to take control.

Caden Sheridan also hit a double and a single with two runs scored and a RBI and Monty Eden had two hits and three runs scored in the victory.

Cam Fowler had a pair of singles, Slater Sampsel doubled and Alston Williamson took the loss, giving up eight runs, four earned, on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks in two innings.

Lakewood 4, Zanesville 3: Daniel Licon hit a triple with a RBI for the Blue Devils (1-5), who were limited to five hits, as the Lancers used a walk-off sac fly to win it.

Mikey Johnson added a single and a RBI, Caleb Underwood also knocked in a run and Riley Needles, Preston Moorehead and Canon Mercer chipped in singles for the Zanesville offense.

Evan McBride went the distance, allowing four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

Softball

West Muskingum 14, Sheridan 7: The visiting Tornadoes (4-2) drilled four home runs and collected 17 hits in a MVL crossover win against the Generals (4-2).

Kate Foster belted a home run and two doubles and knocked in six runs to lead the West M offense, while Addy Antonetz went 3-for-5 with a double and three runs scored, Gabbi Hammer had a double, a single and two RBIs, Peyton Brown homered among her three hits to go with two RBIs and three runs scored, Lydiah Huey and Kadie Bare also hit homers and Gracie Settles doubled twice.

Foster hit a two-run double and Zoie Settles and Brown had RBI singles in a five-run first to help the Tornadoes take control. They led 12-1 going to the bottom of the fifth.

Cadence Puckett was the winning pitcher, surrendering six runs on 13 hits in six innings.

Megan Ranck had three singles, Addison Grosse had a pair of triples, Payton Powell and Lizzy Woods doubled and singled, and Avery Mueller and Montana O'Brien also had two hits each for Sheridan.

Ranck gave up all 14 runs on 17 hits and had one strikeout and two walks in the complete game loss.

Philo 24, Coshocton 2 (5 inn.): Brooklyn Ferrell went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and four runs scored and Addie Shearer knocked in seven runs on a double and two singles, as the host Electrics improved to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in the MVL.

Kassydi Harris had a double, single, four runs scored and two RBIs, Caitlin Rose added three hits and three RBIs, Karlee Southall chipped in a double, single and four RBIs and Megan Tom doubled and singled for Philo, which scored 10 runs in the first inning.

Shearer scattered seven hits and struck out three in five innings for the win.

Destiny Frye highlighted the Lady 'Skins (0-6) effort with two doubles and two runs scored, Jaeli Tiedt added two hits and Jaiden Arnold suffered the loss, surrendering 15 runs, six earned, on six hits in 1 1/3 innings.

Meadowbrook 12, Maysville 0 (6 inn.): Alexx Combs had a pair of singles with two RBIs and Jordyn Vargeson chipped in a single and two RBIs to send the Colts (4-2 MVL) past the Panthers (1-4 MVL).

Sommer Ginn had a triple and a RBI and was the winning pitcher, holding Maysville to five hits and fanning three in a complete game, while Addy Wiggins singled and scored three times.

Ashtyn Merlo surrendered seven runs on five hits with a pair of strikeouts and two walks in two innings to take the loss and was one of five Panthers with a hit. Ayven Johnson, Gracie Meredith, Shyann Havens and Haylee Cornett also had singles.

Tri-Valley 10, New Lexington 4: Raegan Smith hit a pair of doubles and a single and Falon Wolford added a double, a single and two RBIs to pace the Scotties (4-2 MVL) in a crossover win.

Keyona Murphy drilled a triple with a single and two runs scored, Olivia Rapol, Caity Journey and Ally Peterson added two hits and a RBI apiece in the win. Peterson and Kylan Brock also scored two runs apiece for the Scotties, who scored 10 unanswered runs.

Belle Baughman picked up the victory in the circle, allowing four runs on 11 hits and striking out five in seven innings.

Abby Wilson homered and knocked in three runs to pace the Panthers (1-5 MVL), while Jayden Allen, Soraya Taylor and Kylie Fink had two hits apiece. Taylor also took the loss, giving up 10 runs, seven earned, on 14 hits with three strikeouts in a complete game.

John Glenn girls win St. Clairsville Invite: The Muskie girls tallied 125 points to edge Steubenville's 111 points to win the Dave Porterfield Invitational, while the John Glenn boys were fourth (51).

John Glenn's Kara Fields captured the 100 hurdles (15.59) with Teegan Walrath third (18.05), Fields won the 300 hurdles (48.13), Brayden Snider (12-1) and Brooklyn Valentine (9-6) went 1-2 in the pole vault, Chelsea Sotherden placed second in the shot (36-1) and third in the discus (108-5), Kira Kaiser took second in the 800 (2:28.14) and 1,600 (5:33), Jessica Church finished fourth in the 400 (1:01.28) and Raya Taylor was fourth in the high jump (4-8) to lead individual placers.

The Muskie girls 800 sprint relay was first (2:00), while Breonna Cosgrove, Grace Lawrence, Laurie Baughman and Alaina Sigman finished second in the 4x800 (11:00), Marina Nicolozakes, Fields, Mya Warner and Snider were third in the 4x100 (53.33), Rebecca Spohn, Riley Zamensky, Charlie Ford and Nicolozakes placed fourth in the 4x200 (1:55.97) and Church, Lawrence, Lily Gensor and Kaiser placed fourth in the 4x400 (4:31) to highlight the relays.

Caiden Lake placed second in the 1,600 (4:48.25) and fifth in the 800 (2:10.35), Carson Clouse, Lake, Ian Davis and Tanner Caudill were second in the 4x800 (8:56), the 800 sprint relay was third (2:02), Cameron House was fourth in the 400 (53.4), Cash Smith took fifth in the 110 hurdles (16.22), Nick Biddinger, House, Lake and Will Nicolozakes were fifth in the 4x400 (3:41.02) and Alex Smith placed fifth in the pole vault (12-0), for John Glenn.

Philo girls third at New Philadelphia: The Electric girls tallied 85 points to place behind Wadsworth (169) and New Philadelphia (123.33) in the Legend Meet at Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium.

Anna Stutes won the long jump at 15-feet-6 3/4 and was fourth in the 100 (13.65) to pace the Philo girls. Jenna Lytton, Milee Wahl, Aubree Ford and Emily Irvin were third in the 4x800 (11:03), Jenna Lytton also placed third in the 1,600 (6:00) and fourth in the 800 (2:40.82), Sara Searls, Halli Harris, Aubree Delong and Stutes finished third in the 4x100 (54.57), Makenna Staker, Emily Irvin, Aleigha Busse and Milee Wahl finished third in the 4x400 (4:37.29), Delylah Boetcher was third in the pole vault (7-0) and Staker came in fourth in the 300 hurdles (52.99).

The Philo boys were seventh with 39 points, as Aidan Mahon placed third in the 400 (53.53) and fourth in the high jump (5-10), Alex Evans, Corgan Goldean, Jacob Savage and Mahon were fourth in the 4x400 (3:46.71) and Evans came in fifth in the 300 hurdles (45.45).

New Lex competes at Southeastern: The Panther girls were 12th (9 points) and the boys 18th (13) in a meet with 20 teams.

Nora Duperow placed fourth in the 200 (28.75) and fifth in the 100 (13.88) to pace the New Lex girls, while Carson Kellogg, Chase Dumolt, Mason Klingler and Lucas Scott took fourth in the 4x200 (1:38.0) and Kenneth Waggoner tied for fourth in the pole vault (10-0) for the boys.
