HS Roundup: New Lex claims Jimmy Wood; Spicer sets new standard at NL

NEW LEXINGTON — New Lexington had five top-two placers in claiming its own Jimmy Wood Invitational on Saturday.

Ethan Burkhart (106 pounds) and Hunter Rose (165) captured individual titles, while Harrison Ratliff (132), Sam Longhenry (175) and Zane Pletcher (285) were runner-ups, as the Panthers totaled 238 points to edge Lancaster (234) and Barnesville (223) for the team title.

Hayden Clark (190) was fourth and Isaac Ratliff (126) and Jesse Wood (215) came in fifth for New Lex.

John Glenn took fifth (151) with Dominic Bates (120) and Jared Smith (126) second, Cohen Bunting (150) third and Owen Edwards (132) and Cash Smith (175) sixth.

Crooksville placed 11th (102), as Corbyn Browning (120) and Andrew Rollins (285) placed third and Christian Browning (132) fourth; West Muskingum was 15th (75) with Steven Crumbaker (157) in second and Andrew Stark (175) fourth; Morgan tied for 19th (60) with Logan Niceswanger (190) placing first and Bradley Spencer (144) sixth; River View was 26th (46) behind Cruz Mobley (215) in second; Coshocton was 27th (30) with Darion Smitley (157) in fifth; and Maysville 28th (19), as Caleb Monlux (126) placed seventh.

Philo fifth at Watkins Memorial Invite: The Electrics tallied 127 points to place fifth and Sheridan was ninth (77).

Brayden Bernard (165) finished second, Talan Bailey (150) and Drew Lincicome (190) came in third, Monty Boyd (157) was fourth and Griffin Swartz (126) placed fifth for Philo.

Coltyn Reedy (138) came in second, Jacob Householder (132) and Hunter Wallis (144) took third and Isaac McKinney (215) placed fifth for the Generals.

Zanesville eighth at Utica Invite: The Blue Devils totaled 108.5 points to come in eighth, and Sheridan also had a contingent that came in 12th (80).

Vince Coleman (106) and Christian Ramirez (285) won titles, while Kamarion Ruff (165) took third and Thomas Mayle (138) came in fourth for Zanesville.

Mack Miller (150) and Noah Miller (285) were third, Logan Householder (126) came in fourth and Luke Skinner (120) was fifth for the Generals.

Girls Basketball

New Lexington 60, Meadowbrook 52: Aubri Spicer became the Panthers' all-time leading scorer with 16 points, as they maintained their lead in the Muskingum Valley League Small School Division.

Kim Kellogg had seven of her 16 points in the first quarter as New Lex (15-5, 12-2) led 11-8 after one, and Spicer had eight in the second quarter to keep the Panthers up 32-29 at the half.

Karly Launder had 11 of her 18 and Taylor Sichina hit a pair of big 3s and scored eight in the second for the Colts (12-7, 8-6).

New Lex took a 41-38 lead into the fourth where Spicer was 6-of-6 at the line and Abby Wilson had seven of her 15 to secure the win.

Maddie May added 14 points, Sichina finished with 10 and Kenli Norman had eight for Meadowbrook.

John Glenn 61, Maysville 26: Mckinzi Linscott tallied 20 points and eight rebounds to spark the Muskies' rout of the Panthers in Big School play.

Mya Oliver added 13 points and six assists and Emma Dolan scored 11 for John Glenn (14-5, 8-5), which led 13-2 through one quarter and 33-12 at the half.

Emerson Williams had seven points and Taelyn Dickinson and Miley Fulkerson five each for Maysville (4-14, 3-10).

John Glenn reserves won 21-20 behind nine points by Emmy Babcock. Williams had eight for the Panther JV.

Philo 47, River View 21: Olivia Winland hit four 3s on her way to 14 points, as the Electrics (9-10, 7-7) downed the Lady Bears (4-15, 3-12) in Big School play.

Bailey Dement added 10 points and five steals, Olivia Dement scored nine and Caitlin Rose and Aleigha Busse had six each for Philo, which led 11-3 through one quarter and 21-3 at the half. Rose also had nine rebounds, Winland seven boards and Busse three assists.

Lily Yoder had eight points and Elaina Brenly scored six to lead River View.

Kortnee Mickle had 10 points as River View reserves won 29-21. Milee Wahl had seven for Philo.

West Muskingum 64, Crooksville 23: The visiting Tornadoes (14-5, 11-3) raced out to a 21-2 first-quarter lead in a MVL Small School win against the Ceramics (2-17, 1-13).

Their advantage was 37-10 at the half, but no other information was available.

Morgan 48, Coshocton 45 (OT): Gia Myers had seven of her team-high 16 points in overtime, as the visiting Raiders (8-11, 4-9) rallied to get past the Lady 'Skins (1-18, 1-14) in Small School action.

Myers hit a 3 to put Morgan up 39-37 late in regulation before Bartlett's shot tied it at the buzzer.

Isabelle Lauvray and and Savannah Bartlett tallied 14 points apiece for Coshocton, which led 10-7 after one quarter, 25-17 at the half and 32-28 through three. Julia Cutrina added eight points in the loss.

MaKayla Kidd added 12 points, Myleigh Williams scored nine and Odessa Smith had eight counters for Morgan, which forced overtime by tying the game at 39.

Harvest Prep 46, Rosecrans 9: The Warriors led 17-5 at the half before pulling away in the second half for a Mid-State League Cardinal Division win, but no other information was available.

Boys Basketball

West Muskingum 68, John Glenn 57: Noah Ray collected 18 points, as the visiting Tornadoes (15-3, 11-1) topped the Muskies (10-8, 8-4) in a MVL crossover.

Gage Newsom added 17 points, seven came in the fourth quarter, and Jack Porter added 14 for West M, which led 15-12 through one quarter, 32-23 at the half and 47-39 after three.

Nathan Walker hit three 3s as part of a game-high 27 points and Nelson Cameron added nine points, all 3s, to pace John Glenn, which made 10 3s in the loss.

Rosecrans 78, Philo 66: The Bishops (14-2) built a 40-18 halftime lead and watched the Electrics (4-13) get as close as three in the second half before holding on for the win.

Rosecrans, which made 25 of 48 field goals and 12 of 24 3s, was up 22-4 after one quarter, but Philo cut the 22-point halftime deficit to 47-41 going to the fourth.

Grady Labishak hit a big 3 to stave off the Philo rally and led the Bishops with 29 points, including an 8-of-10 effort at the line. Weston Hartman had a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds, Brendan Bernath added 13, Xander Daniels scored 10 and James Goggin dished out six assists and grabbed five boards.

Cade Searls tallied to pace the Electrics with 26 points, while Demetrius Strickland added 11 and Cooper Radcliffe had eight. They were held to 23-of-53 shooting and were out-rebounded 32-25.

Swimming

Rosecrans competed at MSL meet: Emily Ward led the Bishops by placing fourth in the girls 200 free (2:37.97) and fifth in the 100 fly (1:25.36) and Brennan Jones was sixth in the boys 200 free (2:37.78) in the MSL meet.

Bowling

Sheridan boys fall short at Muskingum Invite: The Generals earned the second seed for the tournament but was upset by seventh seed Reynoldsburg, which went onto win the tournament.

Sheridan's Levi Currence was the overall boys champion with a 256-688, three-game series and teammate Corben Bope was fourth (247-606). Owen Larimer led Maysville boys, who were 11th, with a 196-499.

The Maysville girls were sixth and lost to three-seed Centerville. Emma Waxler led the Panthers with 162-434 and Kyrie Kepler 141-382, while the Sheridan girls were ninth and led by Ryan Satterfield's 181-478.
