HS Roundup: New Lex volleyball sweeps Coshocton

COSHOCTON — Visiting New Lexington used strong net play to sweep host Coshocton 25-18, 25-23, 25-16 during Tuesday's Muskingum Valley League Small School Division match.

Leaders for Coshocton (2-2, 2-1) were Jalynn West with 20 assists and two blocks, Lindsay Bryant with seven kills and 11 digs, and Kenidi Jackson with six kills and eight digs.

New Lexington (3-1, 2-1) executed a balanced offensive attack with Jerilynn Koehler leading the way with 10 kills, while Abby Wilson had seven and Trinity Cook had six. Lizzie Ellis dished out 34 assists in the winning effort.

In the reserve contest, Coshocton was defeated in three close sets, 26-24, 21-25, 16-25. Maggie Laaper had six kills and Sophia McFadden pounded six. Caroline Dupler and Emma Sole each had 6 kills for the Panthers.

River View 25, 25, 25, Philo 11, 20, 11: Kayla Dulgar and Liv Spaulding combined for 28 kills and Cayla Shrimplin led the defense with 15 digs to propel the Lady Bears' (4-1, 2-1) sweep of the host Electrics in MVL Big School Division play.

Dulgar finished with 15 kills, 27 assists and nine digs; Spaulding hit 13 kills and made three blocks; Shrimplin was 100 percent serving with two aces; Haley Balo and Bailey Laudick had eight and seven digs, respectively; and Brittany Henderson set up 16 assists for the winners. Laudick and Henderson were also 100-percent servers.

River View reserves lost 25-22, 22-25, 14-25, Shaelyn Yoder had 13 points and Shieann Waldren eight points.

Garaway 25, 25, 12, 25, Ridgewood 15, 22, 25, 13: Kaelynn Robinson had 38 digs, 10 kills and four points to lead the Generals (3-3) in an Inter-Valley Conference loss to the Pirates.

Kya Masloski added nine kills, eight assists and six digs; Kelley Masloski 17 assists, four digs and two blocks; Skylar Wright four kills, eight digs, two blocks, three aces and six points; Kaiedence Smith nine digs, four aces and nine points; Maggie Shannon 13 digs; Kadin Belt 10 digs and Megan Mainwaring five kills for Ridgewood.

Boys Soccer

Maysville 6, Coshocton 0: The host Panthers led 2-0 at the half and rolled past the Redskins in MVL play.

Girls Soccer

River View 2, Harrison Central 0: Kylie Miller had a goal and an assist and Abby Wright scored a goal, as the visiting Lady Bears moved to 3-1 on the season.

Freshman Elaina Brenly had her second shutout in the goal.

River View will also host the 18th Labor Day Showcase on Monday, and the schedule features River View-Zanesville, 9 a.m.; Newark-Rocky River, 11 a.m.; Bexley-Parkersburg South, 1 p.m.; Hiland-Pemberville Eastwood, 3 p.m.; Licking Valley-Western Reserve Academy, 5 p.m.; Tri-Valley-Wooster, 7 p.m.

Golf

River View Junior High 126, Strasburg 188: Gavin Gress took medalist honors with a 28, as the Black Bears won a dual at Five Waters.

Colton Gress and Clark Frischen added 32s and Brynn Harstine carded a 34 for the team scoring, while Taylor Harstine had 36 and Makayla Gress 40 for River View.

Local Sports Briefs

· The Three Rivers Bassmasters held their ninth club tournament for 2022 with six members and one guest competing on Saturday at O’Shaughnessy Reservoir.

Greg Montgomery won with 3.89 pounds, while Jim Eckelberry was second (2.53 lbs.) and David DeLong was third (2.34 lbs.). Tom Knepper caught the Big Bass with 1.99 lbs.

Three Rivers Bassmasters is a local bass fishing club that fishes competitive bass fishing tournaments throughout the year. Membership is open to interested individuals 18 years of age and older. For club information contact Jim Eckelberry, Sec./Treas. at 740-545-9394.

· On Aug. 30, the Tuesday Evening League at Hickory Flats played Low Net minus Putts. The A-flight winner was Sue Patterson with 15 and B-flight Kathy Hendricks with 15. Other low scores were Sue Patterson and Linda Miller 46; Sherry Kirkpatrick and Connie Lahna 47, Carol Moore 49.
