HS Roundup: River View boys pick up road win

STEUBENVILLE — Brody Border poured in 30 points, as visiting River View overcame a first-quarter deficit to down Steubenville 61-56 on Saturday.

The Big Red led 18-14 through one quarter, but Border scored eight, Owen Emig five and Brody Shrimplin four in the second quarter to put the Black Bears (2-4) up 31-27 at halftime.

Border and Emig combined for 11 points in the third as River View led 46-45 going to the fourth, while Border had seven points, including a key 3, to help secure the win.

Emig chipped in 17 points and Shrimplin added 10 points for River View, which made 14 of 18 free throws. Border was 7 of 9 at the line.

Keith Lewis led Steubenville with 13 points and Phaeton Hill and Ivan Buggs had 10 points apiece.

Wrestling

Area teams compete at Holiday Classic: Host Coshocton tallied 247.5 points to place sixth, while Ridgewood was seventh with 231.5 points and River View 13th with 140.5 points, as 20 teams participated.

Clear Fork won the team title with 470.5 points and New Philadelphia was second with 414.

Coen Phillips finished second at 144 to pace the Redskins, while Caden Griffiths (113), Tristian Angulo (120) and Owen Walters (190) placed fourth.

Jesse Maple took second at 132 pounds, Aiden Sparger (157) took fifth and Landon Belt (120) and Logan Sesser (285) were sixth for the Generals.

Brady Winner finished second at 285, Cruz Mobley took third at 215, Brayden Melear (126) came in sixth and Gavin Kesterson (138) was seventh for the Black Bears.

Girls Basketball

New Lexington 63, Coshocton 27: Chloe Dick went for 20 points to pace the Panthers (8-1, 6-0) in a rout of the Lady 'Skins in MVL Small School action.

Aubri Spicer had 10 of her 16 points in the first quarter to stake New Lex to a 22-4 cushion after one. Abby Wilson added 10 points, eight in the second quarter and Makenzy McCoy had eight points with a pair of 3s, as the Panthers' advantage was 40-14 at the half and 56-19 through three.

Savannah Bartlett poured in 18 points to pace Coshocton.

Philo 53, River View 40: Olivia Dement hit four 3s and poured in 20 points to lead the host Electrics (2-5, 2-4) past the Lady Bears in Big School action.

Dement made a trio of 3s and scored 13 in the first quarter to put Philo ahead 17-6 after one.

Bailey Dement had four points in the second to keep the Electrics ahead 25-13 at the half, and Olivia Dement and Aleigha Busse combined for 10 points in the third for a 41-28 cushion going to the fourth.

Busse had 10 points, Olivia Winland added nine points, Bailey Dement chipped in six steals and five assists, Bri Wolfe grabbed seven boards and Olivia Dement six rebounds for Philo.

Lily Yoder had 14 of her 19 points in the second half to pace the Lady Bears (3-7, 1-5), while Prestyn Patterson added eight points.

River View reserves won 36-26, as Kortnee Mickle and Regan Foster had 10 points apiece. Jenna Lytton had 11 points for Philo.
