HS Roundup: Sheridan girls roll to Big School Division crown

BYESVILLE — Jamisyn Stinson poured in 12 of her game-high 22 points in the first quarter, as visiting Sheridan started fast and cruised to a 62-32 victory over Meadowbrook in Saturday's Muskingum Valley League crossover.

Stinson hit a pair of 3s in the first as the Generals (20-2, 15-1) led 22-8 after one and were up 29-16 at the half.

Stinson and Payton Powell combined for 15 points in the third, as Sheridan built a 52-22 advantage in securing another MVL Big School Division crown.

Powell added 16 points, including four 3s, five rebounds and four assists, Stinson grabbed eight boards and five steals, Nora Saffell had nine counters, five rebounds and four assists and Mylie Forgrave dished out five assists for the winners.

Kenli Norman scored 11 and Kaylynn Gombeda added six for the Colts (13-8, 9-7).

Philo 44, West Muskingum 41: The Electrics (12-10, 9-7) were down five with 1:38 left in the game before rallying past the Tornadoes (16-6, 12-4) in a MVL crossover.

Olivia Dement had eight of her 11 points, which included two of her three 3s, and Bailey Dement was 4 of 6 at the line in the final stanza to help seal the win.

Bailey poured in 16 points, Caitlin Rose added seven markers and five rebounds, Bri Wolfe had four rebounds and Aleigha Busse dished out three assists for Philo.

Caitlyn Drake scored 13 points, while Jayden Thornton had seven and Gracie Settles and Debra Allen six apiece for West M, which led 12-8 after one quarter and 31-30 after three. The game was tied at 21 at the half.

West Muskingum reserves won 49-20 behind 15 points by Addy Antonetz. Olivia Fink had 10 for Philo.

Tri-Valley 67, Crooksville 40: Lexi Howe and PD Moore combined for 36 points, as the visiting Scotties (17-4, 14-2) downed the Ceramics (2-19, 1-15) in league play.

Howe had 10 of her game-high 20 points in the first quarter to put Tri-Valley up 21-10 through one, and the lead was 29-20 at the half.

In the third, Moore collected 10 of her 16 in the third, while Howe made three 3s and scored 10 as the Tri-Valley margin was 57-27 going to the fourth.

Mackenzie Harvey and Addison Wilson had nine apiece for Tri-Valley, while Kenzie Printz tallied 11 points, Madylin Taylor 10 and Brynn Lundell eight for Crooksville.

Zanesville 62, Licking Heights 50: Kandrea Sowers poured in 29 points, including a 10-of-13 effort at the line in the Lady Devils' Licking County League win.

Rylee McCuen added eight points, Kamy Morgan scored seven and Rayne Newman chipped in six for Zanesville (9-11), which led 11-10 after one, 31-21 at the half and 49-34 through three.

Morgan 51, River View 39: Odessa Smith totaled 17 points and Makayla Kidd hit three 3s for nine, leading the Raiders (9-12, 5-10) past the Lady Bears (4-17, 3-13) in MVL action.

Smith and Kidd had seven combined points in the first quarter as Morgan led 9-6, and the Raiders' lead grew to 26-19 at the half, as Kidd and Gia Myers made 3s in the second. Smith added five points in the third to help stretch the cushion to 39-26.

Lily Yoder tallied 13 points, Prestyn Patterson knocked down four triples for 12 points and Elaina Brenly added six to lead River View.

Coshocton 49, Maysville 42: Isabelle Lauvray tied the school record with six 3s in a game and finished with 23, as the Lady 'Skins (2-19, 2-14) held off the Panthers in a league crossover.

The Panthers (4-16, 3-12) led 13-10 through one quarter, as Miley Fulkerson and Ashtyn Merlo combined for nine points.

Lauvray nailed three triples and Savannah Bartlett had five of her 11 in a 17-point second quarter as Coshocton led 27-22 at the break, and the lead was 36-32 going to the fourth.

Lauvray and Bartlett each hit 3s and Lauvray made 4 of 4 at the line in the fourth to seal the win.

Fulkerson finished with 13 points and Merlo had 10 for Maysville.

Boys Basketball

Harvest Prep 68, Rosecrans 65: The Bishops (15-3) used a 10-0 run to tie the game at 65, but the Warriors were fouled on a 3-point attempt with 1.4 seconds left and made all three to secure a Mid-State League Cardinal Division title.

Weston Hartman collected 19 points, including a 7-of-7 effort at the line, and 10 rebounds, Grady Labishak had all 17 of his points after the first quarter to go with five assists and four rebounds, Brendan Bernath added 14 markers and three assists, Xander Daniels scored 10 and James Goggin dished out four assists for Rosecrans.

Bernath made three 3s and Hartman had five in the first quarter to put Rosecrans up 14-12, but Harvest Prep took a 28-27 edge into the half. Labishak scored 10, including a pair of 3s, and Daniels had six in the third to keep the Bishops within 52-50 after three.

The Bishops were 24 of 40 from the field and 9 of 17 on 3s, while the Warriors were 27 of 48 from the field and 9 of 23 on 3s.

Morgan 47, Fort Frye 42: The visiting Raiders (9-10) made their free throws down the stretch to edge the Cadets.

Morgan was up 26-23 at the half and 38-37 going to the fourth, but no other information was available.

Wrestling

John Glenn second at Circleville Invite: Dominic Bates (120 pounds) and Owen Edwards (132) won titles and Lincoln Gilcher (150) placed second, as the Muskies tallied 163 points to place behind Gahanna, which had 191 points.

Jared Smith (126) and Kris Wise (138) were third, Cash Smith (175) came in fourth, Kian Barton (215) placed fifth and Alex Webb (106) was sixth for John Glenn.

Maysville was 14th (61) out of 19 teams, as Logan Wilhite (144) took third, Alijuh Ridenour (132) fourth and Kaleb Monlux (126) fifth.

Swimming

Area teams compete in SEOSL meet: The Tri-Valley girls tallied 267 points to claim the Southeastern Ohio Swim League title at Kenyon College.

The Scotties swept the relays. Sarah Jacoby, Mazie Mallett, Jesi Fuhriman and Emma Lewis won the 200 medley (2:04.96), Abri Mallett, Dani Stewart, Mia Fuhriman and Jesi Fuhriman claimed the 200 free (1:49.01) with Mazie Mallett, Katie Davis, Gabrielle Hensel and Lewis fourth (1:59.27), and Mia Fuhriman, Stewart, Jacoby and Abri Mallett won the 400 free (4:06).

Abri Mallett also won the 200 free (2:13.52) with Lewis in fourth (2:21.3), Lewis claimed the 500 free (6:20) with Hensel second (6:25), Jacoby placed first in the 100 back (1:08.19) with Stewart second (1:08.23), Mia Fuhriman came in second (1:16.41) and Mazie Mallett third (1:16.46) in the 100 breast, Stewart came in second (2:29.98) and Mia Fuhriman third (2:32.4) in the 200 IM, Jesi Fuhriman placed second in the 50 free (25.57) and 100 free (57.5), and Abri Mallett was fourth in the 100 free (1:00.39) for the TV girls.

AJ Lawler won the 100 fly (57.13) and was second in the 100 back (56.15), Lawler, Owen Harney, Gabe Lentz and Sam Wegner were second in the 200 medley (1:54.94), and Lentz placed third in the 100 breast (1:14.56) for the Tri-Valley boys, who were third with 100 points.

Crooksville's Ryleigh Crooks placed first in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.81) and second in the girls 100 fly (1:05.01), Maysville's Tillman Hawk came in third in the boys 500 free (5:41), and John Glenn's Owen Headley took fourth in the boys 200 free (2:04.73) to highlight other finishers.

Zanesville competed in LCL meet: The Lady Devils tallied 35 points for seventh place and the Zanesville boys were eighth with 12 points in the league meet.

Olivia Baldwin, Kady Winland, Abigail Baldwin and Avery Crook were eighth in the girls 200 medley relay (2:31.5) and Abigail Baldwin took eighth in the 100 fly (1:28.2) for the girls, while Justin Ewart placed seventh in the boys 100 breaststroke (1:19.15).
