HS Roundup: Sheridan, John Glenn girls roll to victories

THORNVILLE — Nora Saffell went for 21 points and Jamisyn Stinson added 17, as host Sheridan dropped Fairfield Union 52-32 on Wednesday night.

Stinson hit a pair of 3s in the first quarter to stake the Generals to a 15-7 advantage through one quarter, while Saffell collected 11 points in the second to send Sheridan into the half with a 28-15 lead.

The Generals (10-1) were up 35-21 after three, while Stinson sealed the win by hitting two more 3s and making 5 of 6 free throws in the fourth.

Stinson added nine rebounds, four assists and three steals, Saffell corralled eight boards, Payton Powell had six rebounds and Ava Heller dished out five assists in the win.

John Glenn 49, Licking Valley 24: Mya Oliver poured in 18 points, as the visiting Muskies (7-4) overcame a slow first half to roll past the Panthers in non-league play.

John Glenn 8-6 after one quarter and 25-17 at the half, as Emma Dolan had all five of her points in the second quarter, while Oliver added four and Madeline Winland made a 3 in the quarter for the winners.

Kylah Morgan scored her five points and Winland hit another triple in a 13-2 third for the Muskies, who led 38-19 after three.

Riley Zamensky added seven points and Winland and Linscott finished with six points for the Muskies.

Mt. Lebanon (PA) 57, New Lexington 42: The Panthers (9-2) were outscored 24-7 in the second quarter to fall on the first day of the North Canton Hoover Classic.

Kim Kellogg collected 16 points and Aubri Spicer added 11 for New Lex, which led 16-11 through one quarter before trailing 35-23 at the half and 46-28 entering the fourth.

Trinity Cook also had six points and Chloe Dick five for New Lex, while Payton Collins and Riley Collins scored 15 apiece for Mt. Lebanon.

Federal Hocking 48, Crooksville 34: Brynn Lundell and Lexi Van Meter had nine points apiece for the Ceramics (1-9) in a non-league road loss to the Lancers.

Takira Walker had six of her team-high 15 points in the first quarter for the Lancers, who led 19-9 after one, 30-14 at the half and 40-27 through three.

Kenzie Printz chipped in seven points and Meg Mumford had five points for Crooksville, while Larissa McDaniel added 12 points for the Lancers.

Wrestling

Crooksville wins own Holiday Classic: The Ceramics totaled 223 points to claim the team title in the eight-team Crooksville Holiday Classic.

Corbyn Browning (120), Christian Browning (126), Jacob Hammer (132), James Bookless (175) and Andrew Rollins (285) won individual titles, while Corbyn Browning (126) and Hunter Browning (144) came in second, and Gavin Pitts (165), Adryan Lightle (175), Hadrian Walker (190) and Tate Justice (215) were fourth for Crooksville.

Zanesville came in fourth (144.5) and West Muskingum sixth (121).

Vince Coleman (106) placed first, Thomas Mayle (132) and Cutler Smith (175) took second, Jaden McConiha (190) and Christian Ramirez (285) came in third, and Logan Goldsmith (138) and Vaughn Pouncy (157) were fourth for the Blue Devils.

Konnor Samson (150) and Steven Crumbaker (157) earned first-place finishes and Noah McFee (138) and Andrew Stark (190) were second for the Tornadoes.

John Glenn opens 3-2 at Wheeling Park duals: Dominic Bates (120), Cohen Bunting (157) and Kian Barton (215) went 5-0 as the Muskies had a solid Day 1 at Wheeling Park.

John Glenn defeated Herbert Hoover 40-39, Shenandoah 46-34 and Tyler Consolidated 51-27, while falling to 49-27 to Park and 59-24 to Hurricane (W. Va.).

Alex Webb (106), Kris Wise (138) and Cash Smith (175) also went 3-2 for the Muskies.

Swimming

Area teams compete in Tri-Valley Pentathlon: The Scotties had a strong day during its own Pentathlon at the Muskingum YMCA.

The Tri-Valley girls totaled 115.5 points to win the team title. Jesi Fuhriman placed first (34.95), Dani Stewart second (36.8), Mia Fuhriman third (37.79) and Mazie Mallett fourth (37.99) in the 50 breast; Jesi Fuhriman placed first (26.54), Abri Mallett fourth (28.57) and Mia Fuhriman fifth (28.62) in the 50 free; Jesi Fuhriman won the 100 IM (1:10.42) with Stewart in fourth (1:13.94); Jesi Fuhriman was second (29.52), Mia Fuhriman third (31.56), Jacoby fourth (31.87) and Stewart fifth (32.10) in the 50 fly; and Abri Mallett took second (33.07), Stewart third (33.15), Jacoby fourth (33.70) and Jesi Fuhriman fifth (34.11) in the 50 back for the Scotties.

Tri-Valley's Jesi Fuhriman, Sam Wegner, Abri Mallett and AJ Lawler were second in the mixed 200 free relay (1:47.33) and AJ Lawler, Mia Fuhriman, Sarah Jacoby and Wegner were third in the mixed 200 medley (2:05.57), while Lawler won the boys 50 back (27.29) and took third in the 100 IM (1:02.63), fourth in the 50 fly (27.04) and fifth in the 50 breast (32.98); and John Glenn's Owen Headley came in fifth in the boys 50 fly (27.57) to highlight area finishers.
