HS Roundup: Sheridan knocks off Tri-Valley; West M drops Morgan

THORNVILLE — Sheridan was short-handed on Friday night.

The Generals played without Caden Sheridan, while an injured Reed Coconis battled through to score 13 points and lead his squad past rival Tri-Valley, 56-51, in a Muskingum Valley League-Big School Division contest at Glen Hursey Gymnasium.

AJ Winders and Raine Rodich also had 13 points apiece and Blake Turnes chipped in 11 for the host Generals (12-8, 8-6), who led 24-10 through one quarter.

Tri-Valley (13-7, 11-3) pulled within 35-26 at the half and 41-39 going to the fourth, but couldn't complete the comeback. Max Lyall had 10 in the losing effort.

Terrell Darden's 13 points led the Scotties, who fell two games back of Maysville in the Big School Division standings with two games left. Max Lyall and Nohah Nichols added 10 points each and Erik Neal had nine.

Sheridan reserves lost 57-55 in double overtime, as Kory Holden and Evan Anderson had 15 points apiece for the Generals, while the Sheridan freshman won 42-30 behind 11 points by Coleman Sprankle.

West Muskingum 46, Morgan 29: With top scorer Carson Mummey out with injury, the host Raiders managed only 10 second-half points in an MVL-Small School loss to the division-leading Tornadoes.

Noah Ray's 13 points was tops among three players in double figures for West (16-4, 12-2), which maintained a one-game lead over New Lexington with two games left.

Jack Porter had seven of his 12 points in the first half and had a 3-pointer in the third, when the Tornadoes extended a 24-19 halftime lead to 35-24 entering the fourth. Connor Paima added 11 points for the winners, who had six players score.

Joe Mayle's eight points led Morgan, which also saw Hunter Shrivers toss in six and Quintin Davis five.

Kyle Porter scored 10 of his 14 points in the second half to lead West to a 50-40 reserve win. Tavin Bennett added 10 points for the Tornadoes, while Tavian Myers tossed in a game-high 18 for Morgan.

New Lexington 61, Coshocton 32: Isaac Dick led three Panthers (17-3, 11-3) in double figures with 14 points and pulled down six rebounds in a Small School win to keep pace with West M.

Ryan Hobbs tallied 13 points with six rebounds and three assists, Isaiah Stephens had 10 points and five assists and Lukas Ratliff added eight points and eight assists for New Lex, which led 25-14 after one, 37-19 at the half and 50-24 through three.

The Panthers were 24-of-51 shooting, including 7-of-16 on 3s, and owned a 31-23 advantage on the boards. They had just two turnovers to eight by the Redskins.

Colton Conkle had 11 points and six boards and Coby Moore added nine markers for Coshocton, which was held to 11-of-41 shooting and was just 2 of 10 behind the arc.

River View 78, Philo 56: Brody Border's return from injury was a triumphant one for the host Black Bears (7-13, 3-11 MVL-Big), who scored 23 fourth-quarter points in an MVL-Big School win at Luther Stover Gymnasium.

Owen Emig hit a trio of 3s among his game-high 25 points, with 15 coming after halftime. Border added 22, with 18 in the first half, helping River View take a 36-28 lead after two quarters that ballooned to 55-40 after three quarters.

Layton Massie had 13 points and Preston Yoder eight with two first-half 3s for River View, which had eight 3s overall.

Cade Searls tossed in 22 points for the host Electrics (4-15, 4-10), with a trio of 3s among his 13 markers in the first half. Talon Preston chipped in eight points, all in the first three quarters.

Meadowbrook 60, Crooksville 58: The host Colts (1-18, 1-13) scored their first win of the season over the Ceramics (3-16, 1-13) in MVL play.

Meadowbrook held a 16-14 edge after one quarter before leading 31-25 at the half and 47-42 through three.

Girls Basketball

Rosecrans 47, Millersport 25: Alaina Berry poured in 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds, as the Bishops improved to 12-8 overall after a Mid-State League Cardinal Division win.

Ella Lambert added 11 points with a pair of 3s and Jenna McLaughlin scored eight to go with 11 rebounds, four assists and four steals for Rosecrans.

Berry scored seven in the first quarter as Rosecrans led 16-5 after one. The Bishops' advantage grew to 26-12 at the half, while Berry and Lambert hit 3s in the third to push the lead to 37-14 going to the fourth.

Roni Rarey had nine points and Zarah Roby added eight for the Lakers, who were held to 10-of-44 shooting. They also had 23 turnovers.

Rosecrans made 16 of 52 from the floor and 10 of 15 at the line.
