HS Roundup: TV softball falls to Watkins

DRESDEN — Jordyn Wycoff belted a three-run home run in the top of the first inning, as visiting Watkins Memorial delivered plenty of offense in a 17-2 win over Tri-Valley in softball action on Tuesday at Kenny Wolford Park.

Caity Journey had both of the Scotties' hits and knocked in both runs, as Keyona Murphy and Ally Peterson each scored in the loss.

Paiton Murphy took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks in 4 1/3 innings.

Wycuff hit a pair of homers among her three hits to go with five RBIs and three runs scored, Maleya Thompson also hit two homers in going 5-for-5 with four RBIs, Taylor Gerhardt swatted two homers and a double with two RBIs and two runs scored and Kendal Tellings and Cortney Dobbs also had homers as the Warriors totaled 18 hits.

Winning pitcher Carsyn Cassady and Tellings combined on the two-hitter. Cassady had five strikeouts and two walks in four innings and Tellings fanned three in three innings.

Baseball

Sheridan 11, Zanesville 3: Reid Packer and Caden Sheridan each had four hits, and the Generals had 19 as a team in a win over the Blue Devils.

Sheridan hit a two-run double in the first to put the Generals ahead 2-0 then Packer and Monty Eden hit RBI singles and Sheridan added another RBI double in the second for a 5-0 cushion.

Riley Needles drew a bases-loaded walk and Preston Moorehead followed with a two-out RBI single in the home half to get the Blue Devils within 5-2, but Austin Clifton hit a RBI single and Packer drove home two more with a single in the third for an 8-2 advantage.

Packer finished 4-for-4 with three RBIs, Eden was 3-for-4, Sheridan posted a 4-of-5 effort with four RBIs, Ryan Kuhn had a double and two singles and Blake Turnes also had two hits for the winners. Josh Paxton was the winning pitcher and combined with Josh Eden and Bryson Ruff to hold Zanesville to five hits.

Canon Mercer hit a double and Preston Moorehead went the distance in the loss, allowing 11 runs, eight earned, on 19 hits.

John Glenn 14, Maysville 3: Colt Emerson and Gunner Fox each knocked in three runs, sending the visiting Muskies (2-1 MVL) past the Panthers (0-4 MVL) in Muskingum Valley League play.

The Panthers led 2-0 after one inning, scoring on a John Glenn error and a wild pitch, but Emerson stole home and Fox singled home Aaron Johnson in the third to tie the game at 2.

Coen Fink's fielder's choice brought home Roberts for a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third, but a wild pitch and Johnson's RBI single in the fourth put the Muskies ahead for good at 5-3, while Fox doubled home two more later in the frame for a 7-3 cushion.

Emerson added a bases-loaded triple in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Aydan Thompson and Gates Thompson also had two hits, while Robert Woodard earned the victory, allowing three runs on two hits with two strikeouts and four walks in three innings. Justin Stambush tossed three scoreless innings of relief.

Roberts had two singles, Landon Iden also singled and Todd Saxton took the loss, allowing seven runs on seven hits in four innings. He had six strikeouts and three walks.

Rosecrans 8, Grove City Christian 2: The Bishops used a four-run sixth inning to pull away for a Mid-State League Cardinal Division win.

Weston Hartman, Nick Bernath, Mikey Burkhart and Malakai Clark led the offense, while Hayden Perdue earned the win on the mound and Xander Daniels earned the save.

Track and Field

MVL relays held at Philo Athletic Complex: The Muskingum Valley League track and field teams got together for the annual league relays.

The River View boys won the team title with 89 points followed by Sheridan (65), John Glenn (63), Meadowbrook (65) and Philo (55) in the top five, while the John Glenn girls were first with 95 followed by Sheridan (88.33), River View (63.5), Meadowbrook (55) and Tri-Valley (53.83). West Muskingum's Lane Kennedy, Keegan Karns, Ty Shawger and Rashid Sesay won the boys 4x100 relay (44.10), Hayley Scheide, Molly Spiker, J. Winegardner and Abby Guentter were first in the girls 4x100 relay (52.73) and 4x200 (1:52.13), Spiker, Winegardner, Kennedy and Sesay claimed the mixed 4x200 (1:42.12), Kennedy, Sesay, Shawger and Conner Hill captured the boys 4x200 (1:34.54), Rebecca Strunk took first in the girls shot (38-0) and Mykell Bowen took first in the girls discus (126-1).

River View's Brylie Wine, Kylie Roderick, Jonathan Vu and Aiden Berger claimed the mixed 4x100 relay (53.91), Koda Klein, Drew Tumblin, Parker Andrews and Laired Williamson were first in the boys 4x400 (3:38.15), Cortney Bookless, Taryn Tumblin, Lydia Black and Caily Shriver won the girls 4x400 (4:32.3), and Klein, Andrews, Tumblin and Jamal Watts finished first in the boys 800 sprint relay (1:39.56).

John Glenn's Nick Biddinger, Ty Caudill, Ian Davis and Caiden Lake were first in the boys 4x800 (9:08), Kira Kaiser, Waverly Yurco, Laurie Baughman and Grace Lawrence came in first in the girls 4x1,600 (23:51), Jessica Church, Kaiser, Lawrence and Baughman won the girls 4,000 distance medley (14:07), Kara Fields, Raya Taylor, Teegan Walrath and Mackenzie Welch won the girls 400 shuttle hurdles (1:08.41), Ava Hoffman was first in the girls high jump (4-11), triple jump (31-1) and long jump (15-9), Alex Smith captured the boys pole vault (12-1) and Brayden Snider was first in the girls pole vault (11-6).

Sheridan's Alec Lackey, Isaiah Brown, Simon Conrad and John Skinner took the boys 4x1,600 (19:28), Hallie Layne, Kenzie Perkins, Beckett Strong and Claire Shriner won the girls 800 sprint relay (1:54.75), and Reed Coconis, Conrad, Cooper Winders and Skinner claimed the boys 4,000 distance medley (11:27).

Philo's Alex Evans, Kyler Nader, C. Goldean and Deacon Scott claimed the boys 440 shuttle hurdles (1:06.55) and Ethan Wickham won the boys high jump (6-0); Meadowbrook's Ethan Furbee took first in the boys long jump (19-0), Talon Cannon was first in the boys shot (42-11 1/2) and Bailey Khune was first in the boys discus (132-6); Coshocton's Zaely Carroll, Aeria Braxton, Mia Lauvray and Sophia Skelton captured the girls 4x800 (11:11) and Morgan's Braylon Miller took first in the boys triple jump (36-10) to highlight other winners.

Boys Tennis

Zanesville 4, Claymont 1: The Blue Devils moved to 2-3 with a win over the Mustangs and host Newark at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Winners for Zanesville were No. 2 singles Josh Lightle over Maddux Maple 7-5, 6-2, No. 3 singles Connor Baldwin over 6-1, 6-1 Owen Cox, No.1 doubles of Sky Cooke and Ethan Turner over Adrian McMath and Riley Milburn 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, and No. 2 doubles of Cash Omen and Carter Parr by forfeit.

Claymont's lone win was at No. 1 singles where Koi Preston downed Tyson Omen 6-1, 6-1.
