HS Roundup: Zanesville falls short at Johnstown; Sheridan's Stinson reaches milestone

JOHNSTOWN — Rashaud Hampton's long 3-point attempt at the final horn was off the mark, as visiting Zanesville dropped a 45-42 decision to Johnstown in Wednesday's Licking County League crossover.

The teams were even at 11 after one quarter before the Johnnies rattled off 12 straight to open the second quarter to build a 23-11 lead.

However, Zanesville (1-8) answered with its own 12-0 run, as Xavier Riley and Hampton made 3s to help tie the game at 23 at the break. Riley had all 12 of his points in the first half with eight in the second quarter.

Hampton collected eight of his 15 points, including two of his three 3s, in the third to help the Blue Devils take a 34-32 edge into the final stanza.

Cody Siegfried scored six of his 14 in the fourth, as Johnstown scored the first six of the frame and led by as many as seven, 43-36, before holding on for the win.

Mikey Johnson had six of his 10 points in the fourth for Zanesville, while Drew Brett also had 14 points for the Johnnies (6-4, 4-1).

Girls Basketball

Sheridan 67, Maysville 24: Jamisyn Stinson became the 10th General in program history to surpass 1,000 points, scoring 33 in a rout of the Panthers in Muskingum Valley League Big School Division play.

Stinson, who made four 3s in the game, needed eight points entering the game, and scored eight of her team's first nine points to reach the milestone. She finished with 15 in the first quarter as Sheridan led 19-10 after one.

Five players scored in a 14-0 second, as the Generals (11-1, 7-1) extended their advantage to 33-10 at the half, and their lead was 56-22 after three quarters.

Ava Heller added 11 points and seven rebounds, Halle Warner scored eight with four assists and four steals and Nora Saffell chipped in six counters with five assists for the winners. Stinson also had six assists and four steals and Payton Powell grabbed seven boards with three assists and three steals.

Taelyn Dickinson reached double figures with 11 for the Panthers (2-9, 2-6).

Tri-Valley 58, River View 16: Lexi Howe and Maddie Garber scored six points apiece in a 20-2 first quarter, as the host Scotties routed the Lady Bears in Big School play.

Garber hit a pair of 3s in the first quarter, while Karlee Rose and Kylan Brock also hit from deep in the stanza.

The Tri-Valley lead grew to 42-10 at the half, as Mackenzie Harvey scored seven and PD Moore six in the second, and the advantage was 57-14 through three.

Howe and Harvey had 14 points apiece for the Scotties (9-2, 7-1), while Garber finished with eight counters and Rose and Moore had six apiece.

Lily Yoder had six points and Prestyn Patterson four for the Lady Bears (4-8, 2-6).

John Glenn 58, Coshocton 21: Mya Oliver poured in 22 points to lead the host Muskies (8-4, 5-3) in a MVL crossover victory.

Oliver had seven in the first to put John Glenn up 13-9 after one quarter of play, while Oliver scored eight and Jess Church six in the second to push the advantage to 34-11 at halftime.

Church finished with 10 points and Mckinzi Linscott chipped in eight points, 10 rebounds and five steals for the Muskies, who led 50-16 through three quarters.

Savannah Bartlett collected eight points and Isabelle Lauvray scored six for the Lady 'Skins (0-11, 0-8).

John Glenn reserves won 43-7 behind 13 points from Alaina Sigman and 11 by Emmy Babcock.

Philo 57, Crooksville 23: Bailey and Olivia Dement combined for 10 points in the first, as the Electrics led 20-8 after one and never looked back against the Ceramics in a league crossover.

Bailey Dement and Caitlin Rose had six points apiece and Bri Wolfe added four points in the second to put Philo (5-6, 4-4) up 43-12 at the half.

Bailey Dement finished with 15 points, Olivia Dement and Rose had 10 points apiece and Wolfe added nine for the Electrics, who were up 52-16 after three.

Riley Rhoades also had eight rebounds, Rose seven boards and Aleigha Busse six boards, Busse and Wolfe had four steals each and Busse had five assists for the Electrics.

Rylee Chamberlin's nine points and Lexi Van Meter's five points led the Ceramics (2-10, 1-7).

Philo reserves won 28-21 behind 13 points by Halli Harris and 11 from Jaelen Rinkes. M. Davis had five points for Crooksville.

New Lex 50, Morgan 19: Aubri Spicer collected 13 points and Chloe Dick chipped in 12 for the Panthers (10-3, 8-0), who maintained their lead in the MVL Small School Division.

Dick had six points and Spicer four in a 14-2 first quarter for New Lex, while Kim Kellogg hit a 3 in the second as the Panther lead was 22-13 at the half.

Four Panthers had at least four points in the third, Spicer with five and Kellogg, Dick and Abby Wilson four each, to put New Lex up 42-14 after three.

Kellogg finished with nine points and Wilson added eight for the winners, while Myleigh Williams and Gianna Myers had six points each for the Raiders (5-8, 2-6).

Wrestling

New Lex sweeps double dual: The Panthers topped West Muskingum and Meadowbrook by the same 66-12 scores.

Connor Fink (106), Ethan Burkhart (113), Marius Baker (120), Connor McNutt (126), Isaac Ratliff (132), Harrison Ratliff (144), Hunter Rose (165), Sam Longhenry (175), Hayden Clark (190) and Zane Pletcher (285) won by forfeit for the Panthers against the Tornadoes, while Jesse Wood (215) pinned Nate Eltringham in 1:29.

For West M, Noah McFee (138) earned a 4-0 decision over Mason Rider; Konnor Samson (150) pinned Nathan Gottke in 3:29; and Steven Crumbaker (157) picked up a 7-3 decision over Nolan Carson.

Fink (106) pinned Brayden Jensen in 3:42; Burkhart (120) pinned Noah Rice in 1:15; Nathan Gottke (144) pinned Owen Hays in 23 seconds; Carson (157) pinned Anthony Beifus in 1:22; Clark (190) scored a 10-second pin of Katelynn Heady and Isaac Ratliff (126), Rider (132), Harrison Ratliff (138), Rose (165), Longhenry (175) and Wood (215) won by forfeit for New Lex against the Colts.

Meadowbrook's Noah Lingle (150) pinned Jason Ratliff in 1:31 and Ethan Heady (285) pinned William Skidmore in 45 seconds.

No final was available between the Colts and Tornadoes.

Philo splits two on Senior Night: The Electrics edged the Scotties 36-34, while falling 42-34 to Sheridan.

Philo winners against the Scotties were Johnny Brown, Griffin Swartz, Talan Bailey, Jack Lincicome, Gibby Swartz, Drew Lincicome and Ryan South, while Brown, Bailey, Dakota Kinney, Jack Lincicome, Drew Lincicome and Cameron Wheeler earned wins against the Generals.

Bowling

Zanesville boys edged by Northridge: The Blue Devils fell in a close clash to the Vikings, who won 1,981-1,861, while the Lady Devils won 914-749 on Monday.

The Zanesville boys were led by Jaden Crawford's 173-346 series, Dillon Rush's 164-327 and Donavan Tabler's 165-306, and the girls were paced by Kady Winland with 155-273.

The Zanesville JV boys were short-handed and suffered a 1,502-1,070 loss, as Wyatt Ponsler led the way with a 141-253.
