HSI agent injured during arrest in Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES - A Homeland Security Investigations agent was injured Wednesday as the agent attempted an arrest.

Leticia Zamarripa, the Department of Homeland Security spokesperson, confirmed that the incident occurred after Las Cruces Police shuttered parts of Farney Drive Oct. 5.

Zamarripa did not name the injured agent but said a “suspected undocumented non-citizen backed up a vehicle and struck the agent” around 4 p.m.

“A group of undocumented non-citizens fled from the parking lot of a hotel in the 200 block of La Posada Lane, which is where the incident occurred,” Zamarripa said.

First responders took the agent to a Las Cruces hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

“The investigation is ongoing, and no further information is available at this time,” Zamarripa said.
