Hudson is holding its Earth Day celebration Saturday.

Residents are invited to join the city for an afternoon of family-friendly activity from noon to 4 p.m. at City Hall, located at 1140 Terex Road.

From 10 a.m. to noon, people can meet at Gazebo Green downtown to participate in what's called a "plog," a litter pickup performed while walking or jogging. Gloves and collection bags will be provided.

Leading up to Saturday, people can also participate in the ongoing Bio Blitz, an event where teams work together to identify as many species as possible. The event ends Friday.

Individuals who submit the most species will receive a prize, provided that the observations are made inside Hudson's city limits; observations must be added to the project before Friday. To participate, create an account at www.inaturalist.org/projects/hudson-bioblitz-2023.

To accommodate various ability levels, several routes will be available. People can arrive anytime during the event hours and participate for as long or as little as they please.

The day of the celebration will feature environmentally friendly vendors, an electric vehicle car show, food from Pink Piggy BBQ, live music and activities for kids. A full listing of the events can be found on the city's website.

Hudson to host presentations at Earth Day event

Additionally, Hudson will be hosting presentations throughout the day.

At noon, Hallie Bowie of New Leaf Home Design will talk about the Inflation Reduction Act, specifically rebates available for homeowners to buy electric vehicles, energy-efficient appliances or other sustainable home upgrades.

At 1 p.m., Erica Matheny of Tinker's Creek Watershed Partners and Sandy Barbic of the Summit Soil and Water Conservation District will hold a rain barrel workshop that's free to observe. For a fee, participants can buy a kit to assemble at the workshop. People can register online.

Interested in learning how to improve soil health? At 2 p.m. Ben McMillan of Rubber City Reuse will hold a seminar on composting at home.

Lastly, at 3 p.m., Barbara Gedeon, a historian from Josiah Lincoln Clouser Flower Farm, will speak about humanity's impact on the Cuyahoga Valley.
