Hudson grapplers drop LCAA dual to D3 top-ranked Dundee

HUDSON — The top wrestling teams in Division 3 and 4, Dundee and Hudson, squared off in a Lenawee County Athletic Association dual meet Wednesday night.

The Vikings picked up the victory by a 56-16 scoreline over the hosts, who were without head coach Scott Marry for the dual.

“I’m happy with how we performed tonight. We knew we had a couple guys that we weren’t sure with the lineup,” said Dundee coach Tim Roberts. “The way the guys stepped up and competed tonight, I’m really pleased with that effort.”

Dundee kicked off the dual with Trey Parker holding off Payton Rogers to win a 12-8 decision at 145 pounds ahead of Aiden Davis (152) getting a 58-second pinfall to push the Viking lead to double digits over Hudson.

Casey Swiderski at 160 followed with a 22-6 technical fall win and Jacob Fenbert grabbed a pinfall in 4:54 at 171, increasing Dundee’s lead to 20-0.

Logan Sallows got Hudson on the board at 189 with an 11-0 major decision, which Cam Kimble added on to with a pinfall victory in 64 seconds, trimming the Tigers’ deficit to Dundee down to 20-10.

From there, Dundee took control, as Kaiden Hubbell (285), Ashton Viers (103), Kade Kluce (112), Kyle Smith (119) and Braeden Davis (125) grabbed five-straight pinfall wins, with Hubbell, Viers, Smith and Davis all getting them in the first period.

Cameron Chinavare (130) and Kole Katschor (135) nabbed decision wins of 12-5 and 8-1 respectively for Dundee before Bronson Marry closed the night with a 46-second pinfall victory for the Tigers.

“We know Hudson’s poised to make another good state run and we’re in the same boat, we’re both doing that,” Roberts said, “Now that we got that done, we can get through the league tournament and we can start rooting for each other.”

Hudson assistant coaches declined to comment.

Clinton, Madison at Hillsdale Quad: At Hillsdale, the Division 3 second-ranked Redwolves picked up a sweep at Wednesday’s quad meet, while the Trojans went 1-1 on the evening.

Clinton picked up a 64-18 win against hosting Hornets and an 83-0 shutout of Madison, which picked up a victory of its own over Dansville by a 65-18 scoreline.

Against Hillsdale, the teams traded pinfalls out of the gate with Nate Smith (189) getting the pin for Clinton, with Logan Badge (215) also getting a pin in 3:23, only for the Hornets to tie the match up with another pin.

Braylon Long (103) and Connor Younts (112) picked up forfeit wins, setting off a streak of eight consecutive wins for the Redwolves.

Zak Shadley (125) and Ethan Younts (145) won via pinfall, Connor Busz (119) and Coy Perry (135) winning via tech fall, along with Chase Packard (130) and Maurice Ames (140) taking forfeit wins to push Clinton’s lead to 58-12 before the teams traded pinfalls to close out the match.

For Madison’s match against Dansville, the Aggies got the lead via a pinfall, but the Trojans reeled off five-straight victories, with Seth Mutter (189), Logan Russell (285) and Malaki Mosher (103) getting first-period pinfalls and Trevor Gritzmaker (215) and Lucas Dopp (112) winning via forfeit.

Dansville got a pinfall win at 119 but Lukas Leonard (125) picked up a 15-0 tech fall, Nicholas Moore (130) won via forfeit and Braxton Gates (135) via a 55-second pinfall.

The Aggies got one more pinfall at 140, but Madison closed out the match with pinfall wins for Jalonn Borders (145) and Trayton Kolle (152) and Tyler Santana winning via an injury forfeit at 160.

Individual results from Clinton’s match with Madison were not available.

Adrian 72, Ypsilanti 12: At Adrian, the Maples had a celebration night as they repeated as Southeastern Conference White Division champions.

Adrian put up its 2020-21 SEC White championship banner prior to dominating the Grizzlies to clinch its second-straight unbeaten season in league duals.

Tecumseh 45, Chelsea 22: At Tecumseh, the hometown team picked up the senior night win against their SEC White foes on Wednesday evening.

Ben Solis (130) started the night with a 64-second pinfall and, after the Bulldogs got a major decision and a pinfall of their own to take the lead, Brennan Elizardo (145) won a 5-4 decision to tie the match.

Chelsea responded with a decision and first-period pinfall, but Tecumseh grabbed control from there, starting with Brandon Rau’s 33-second pinfall victory. Tanek Bagrowski (189) followed with a pin in 3:49, with Max Bledsoe (215) extending the lead on an 8-2 decision.

Josh Swallow won via forfeit at heavyweight, with Wyatt Andrews (103) winning in a 5:25 pinfall, Carter Wolff (119) also winning a void and Josh Harkness (119) capping the scoring for Tecumseh with a 5-4 decision.

Blissfield 42, Onsted 30: At Blissfield, the Royals held off the visiting Wildcats in a rivalry LCAA dual meet to take the 12-point win.

Joshua Harris (119), Tanner Seiser (130), Griffin Jeffrey (135), Colton Seiser (140), Gerardo Martinez (145) and Adam Stutzman (152) won six of the first seven bouts via void for Blissfield, the only one not being a pinfall win in 1:51 for Onsted’s Joey Denkins at 125.

Logan Lomas grabbed a pinfall in 92 seconds at 160 pounds, which Bryent Goldbach (171) winning via another pinfall in 1:03, with Trenton Warner (189) and Collin Eggleston (215) trading void wins for the Wildcats and Royals before Marcus Butler (285) won his bout via a medical forfeit to end the night.

Manchester 58, Addison 15: At Addison, the Panthers were unable to keep pace with the visiting Flying Dutchmen in Wednesday night’s Cascades Conference dual meet.

Caleb Potts (103) got the Panthers out of the gate with a 4-2 decision win, but Manchester won the next 11 weight classes to make it 58-3.

Addison did close out the night with a pair of victories, as Aidan Frost (215) won via a 32-second pinfall before Cameron Miller (285) finished the contest with a pin in 1:36.
