BOYS SOCCER
Division I Cleveland 2 District Semifinals
Hudson 8, Kent Roosevelt 0
Twinsburg 2, Willoughby South 1
Owen Durke (1 goal, 1 assist), Tyler Gravis (1, 1), Ben Mihalek (1, 1) and Ethan Waye (0, 2) had multi-point games for the top-seeded Explorers (17-1-1) on Wednesday.
Gavin Mertes, Will Hallis, John Stecker and Joe Hallis also scored against the 19th-seeded Rough Riders (9-10).
The fourth-seeded Tigers (13-5) jumped out to a two-goal lead and then held off the 10th-seeded Rebels (10-7-2) thanks to goals from Jarren Fuentes and Tate Lowry.
Hudson and Twinsburg will meet on Saturday in a 2 p.m. game at Nordonia.
The two met Aug. 30. Hudson won at home, 2-1.
Division I Cleveland 3 District Semifinals
Walsh Jesuit 2, Painesville Riverside 0
Hunting Valley University School 6, Green 0
Playing through a misty night at Conway Memorial Stadium, the sixth-seeded Warriors (14-4-2) took advantage of their chances to eliminate the seventh-seeded Beavers (11-6-2).
Walsh picked up a goal in each half from senior Xavier Monro to secure the win. He crashed the net after Riverside keeper Owen Silva denied Carter Madden and put the rebound home in the 16th minute.
Munro sealed the game in the 72nd minute, taking a long through ball from Brady Catanzarite, sprinting around the keeper and putting it home.
Walsh coach Tony Catanzarite called goalie Quinn Anderson his man of the match after he registered his 11th shutout of the season.
Walsh advances will play the third-seeded Preppers (12-5-1) Saturday at 2 p.m. at Solon.
Division I Cleveland 4 District Semifinals
Medina 4, Lakewood St. Edward 0
Brunswick 0, Westlake 0 (Blue Devils advance on penalty kicks, 4-1)
The fourth-seeded Bees (12-3-3) were led by Cole Turchyn (2 goals) and Nate Werthmuller (1) in this win over the 10th-seeded Eagles (10-6-2). Medina also benefitted from an own goal to round out the scoring.
The sixth-seeded Blue Devils (11-6-2) upset the second-seeded Demons (15-1-2) thanks to great defense and mettle in a perfect penalty kick showing when Josh Lord, Evan Horner, Caleb Horner and Michael Kerr all converted.
Medina and Brunswick will play in Strongsville at 2 pm. on Saturday.
The two played on Sept. 20. The Bees won 3-0 at home.
Division I, Northeast 5 District Semifinal
Strongsville 3, Copley 0
The fourth-seeded Mustangs (14-2-3) picked up goals from Petar Janjetovic, Alex Rupp and Brandon Lucek to knock out seventh-seeded Copley (9-6-3). Strongsville will play fifth-seeded Wooster (14-5-1) at Elyria on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Generals beat ninth-seeded Olmsted Falls, 4-1.
VOLLEYBALL
Tallmadge Division II District Semifinals
Archbishop Hoban 25-25-25, Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy 11-12-21
The Knights (20-5) topped the Royals (16-9) in three sets to advance to the Tallmadge district final at 4 p.m. Saturday against Bay Village Bay.
Madison Moegerle led Hoban at the net with 11 kills and Molly Kennedy contributed four blocks.
Hoban’s Sophia Day totaled 23 assists, 10 service points and four aces. Macie Mintz tallied 13 digs for the Knights.
CVCA’s Gabby Larison put down five kills, Reese Donahoe had 11 assists and one block, Hallie Hendrickx totaled 18 digs and Camryn Berdysz had one block.
Bay Village Bay 22-25-25-25, Tallmadge 25-19-19-19
The host Blue Devils (17-8) won the first set, but the Rockets (21-3) took the next three sets to advance to a Division II district final.
Zoe Rensel led Tallmadge at the net with 13 kills and Lexi Gray had 34 assists. Tallmadge’s other leaders were Maya Dexter (24 digs), Sammy Blatt (two blocks) and Audrey Eyre (two aces).
Bay’s Sophie Thomas spiked down 16 kills, Laura Fuehrer had 14 kills and Lauren Maxwell added in 13 kills. Maxwell’s stat line also included 15 digs and two blocks, Fuehrer had six blocks, Kristina Laraway totaled 44 assists and Addy Beggs compiled 23 digs.
Division II, Northeast 5 District Semifinal
Norton 25-25-25, Cloverleaf 18-15-18
The 12th-seeded Panthers (20-4) swept the 16th-seeded Colts (13-11) for the third time this season.
Fallon Donley (30 assists) and Sophia Borelle (13) were excellent in the win. Jaedyn Hirst added 23 serve receive passes and Norton had 43 total kills.
The Panthers will play top-seeded Gilmour Academy (17-8). The Lancers beat 21st-seeded Brookside 25-19, 25-10, 25-12. The final is 7 p.m. on Saturday at Firelands High School.
Division II, Northeast 3 District Semifinal
Holy Name 25-25-25, Copley 18-14-19
The second-seeded Green Wave (21-4) advanced to a district final with fifth-seeded Padua (13-12). Seventh-seeded Copley (17-7) was led by Shelby Emich (20 assists, 9 points, 2 aces), Kayla Kemer (21 digs) and Allie Poundstone (7 kills).
