Hudson Valley development plans include a prison, power plant and Borscht Belt museum

Westchester County's beauty scene is growing. The county welcomed three beauty businesses in the last few weeks including Buff City Soap in Mohegan Lake, JECTNYC in Rye, and The Haven in Scarsdale.

Along with new development, there's a lot of redevelopment happening in our area.

First, a Katonah journalist, who grew up in Kiamesha Lake and worked at the Concord Hotel in her teens, is part of an effort to help keep the history of those venerated Borscht Belt hotels alive via a museum effort.

Another historic property being eyed for re-use is the Glenwood Power Plant in Yonkers, which has been vacant since the 1960s.  In a report by lohud reporters David McKay Wilson and Diana Dombrowski, developer and social activist Lela Goren is looking to transform the defunct power plant into "what she calls 'A Home for Client Solutions.'"

Lohud photojournalist Tania Savayan recently took a tour inside the Glenwood Power Plant. Take a look at what's inside and learn more about Goren's ideas here.

Earlier this year, the state of New York closed six prisons. Now, the Prison Redevelopment Commission is working to reimagine the open spaces left behind by the closures.

The Hudson Valley has seen an influx of boutique hotels offering visitors unique experiences. In the coming days I'll be looking into these boutique hotels and why they seem to be popping up so frequently.
