Hudson's new manager is ex-commissioner

Mar. 29—A former member of the Hudson Board of Commissioners will replace Hudson's longtime town manager after she retires at the end of June, according to a press release.

The commissioners approved hiring Jonathan Greer as the new town manager effective July 1.

Greer, currently the public services administrator for the Catawba County Utilities and Engineering Department, resigned from the board on Feb. 16. He said at the time he was stepping down for personal reasons, but Mayor Janet Winkler said in a press release Monday that he resigned because he was interested in replacing Town Manager Rebecca Bentley.

Bentley did not publicly announce her decision to retire until March 16.

The commissioners interviewed Greer in a specially called meeting last Thursday and offered him the job, Winkler said.

Winkler said in the release that Greer and his family live in Hudson, and his former position on the board of commissioners made him the perfect candidate.

"The board chose Greer because of his education, experience and his familiarity with our community as a native of Caldwell County," she said. "The board felt it had the best candidate here among us and didn't need to search elsewhere."

Greer graduated from South Caldwell High School, then received his bachelor's degree in sociology from North Carolina State University. He received his master's degree in public administration from Appalachian State University.

In his role in Catawba County, he is in charge of a departmental budget, 21 employees and handles other department operations, the press release said.

Greer said in the release that he is excited to serve as the town manager.

"I've lived in and around this community most of my life. It's where my wife and I have put down our own roots and chosen to raise our two girls," he said. "We're fully invested in seeing this town be a successful and thriving place to live and raise families."
