Hue Jackson leaned on Jackson State football coach Deion Sanders when he first took over Grambling State football and joining the SWAC.
The pair have had many conversations on how they could partner up to better the conference and HBCUs. Now they go head to head as Grambling State (1-1) hops on i20 east to face Jackson State (2-0) on Saturday ( 1 p.m., ESPNU).
For the past 10 meetings between the programs, GSU has only lost twice to the Tigers. The first time the met with Sanders as skipper, Jackson State walked away with a 33-28 win in 2020.
This season Jackson State has already proved that they are the team to beat in the SWAC conference after opening the 2022 season with a 59-3 win over FAMU. The Tigers have yet to allow a touchdown by opponents, holding teams to three points each.
