Dawn Huff steps down as South Bend Adams girls basketball coach, will remain as AD
Dawn Huff plans to continue to make a lasting impact on the student athletes at Adams High School.
It just will not be as their girls basketball coach in the future.
Huff announced Friday that she is stepping down as the Adams girls basketball coach after five seasons. The 1999 Adams graduate will remain in her role as Athletic Director/Dean of Students that she accepted last summer.

"The No. 1 reason is so I can be a great AD for all of our student athletes here at Adams and give 110% to that role," Huff said of her reason to stop coaching when reached by phone Friday afternoon. "I just want to be able to help all of our students here become successful.
"I can definitely continue to make an impact here as AD on all of our student athletes. And that is very important to me."
Huff went 39-71 in five seasons in charge of the Adams girls basketball program. The Eagles went 11-12 overall and 6-5 in the Northern Indiana Conference during the 2022-23 season. They were 10-10 the prior season and Huff was named as NIC Co Coach of the Year. It was the first back-to-back double digit wins for the program in seven years. The Eagles finished 2-21 the year before Huff took over the program.
"We are so thankful and appreciative of Coach Huff’s great work as Head Girls Basketball Coach," Adams principal Jim Seitz said in a release from the school issued Friday afternoon. "Coach took a program with two wins prior to her arrival and created a great foundation for a successful winning program. Coach instilled the value of hard work and teamwork in every young lady who played for her. We look forward to these same values in her new role as the leader of the athletic programs at John Adams High School. We are truly fortunate to have such an outstanding educator, leader and person on our team.”
Huff came to Adams in 2018 and was first a health and PE teacher. She then served as the Associate Dean of Students in 2021-22 before being named the AD/Dean of Students last July to replace Bob Tull. Tull had been in that role since June of 2019.
Huff and her husband, Andy, have two young sons, Braylon and Micah. She said that trying to make a "110%" commitment to both of her roles at Adams, along with her family, was just not possible.
"I was just pulled in so many directions during the basketball season that it was hard to give 110% to coaching, my job as AD and my family all," Huff said. "I just did not want to feel like I was shortchanging anyone. I feel like I can have a great impact focusing on being great as an AD."

Huff, the former Dawn Superczynski, comes from a great athletic family. Her father, Chuck, who passed away in 2020, was a basketball and baseball star at Adams, while sister Heidi and brother CJ were both outstanding Adams athletes. CJ was also the girls basketball coach at Clay for two seasons.
Huff said she hopes to have a new girls basketball coach hired by late April or early May.
"I'm going to miss coaching the students we have here at Adams," Huff noted. "We have very special kids here at Adams.
"I just feel very fortunate that I was able to lead our girls basketball program for the past five years. I'm very thankful for that."
