Huge Alligator Swims Through Neighborhood in Hurricane Sally Storm Surge
"Oh my god, this is outside of our window!"
Souvenir City’s shark wasn’t the only extra-large predator impacted by Hurricane Sally’s direct hit on Gulf Shores, Alabama, this week.
As evidenced by a shocking video shared to social media Wednesday, wind damage and flooding weren’t the only things residents have to contend with in the aftermath of the category 2 storm.
Resident Tina Bennett managed to record footage of a giant alligator swimming in the storm surge just outside of her Gulf Shores home.
"Oh my god, this is outside of our window!" Bennett exclaimed in a video posted on Twitter by WKRG-TV meteorologist Thomas Geboy. "It is a 10 or 12-foot alligator!"
Another reason to SHELTER IN PLACE until flood waters recede. Not only are there downed power lines, but there’s also displaced wildlife. This 10-12 ALLIGATOR was just outside of a house in Gulf Shores on Plash Island earlier this morning.

Geboy noted that the predatory reptile was another reason to shelter in place until floodwaters recede.
"Not only are there downed power lines, but there’s also displaced wildlife," he wrote.
Sally, the strongest storm to impact the area since Hurricane Ivan, occurred 16 years to the day as Ivan. The storm brought 105-mph winds and two inches of rainfall to Alabama and Florida’s shared coastline.
“While it could be much worse, it’s been mighty bad,” Alabama Governor Kay Ivey said in a statement.
Tourists are banned from Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and the Fort Morgan Peninsula until September 27 as cleanup and recovery continues.
