The grant supports the Foodbank against rising costs from inflation and will contribute to their network’s ongoing outreach efforts. Lauren Truesdale, Foodbank Chief Development Officer, believes the service provides vital aid to the community.

“Hunger is happening in areas where hunger really wasn’t a problem before,” said Truesdale. “We can make sure people have the food that they need to take home and feed their families”

The grant money will contribute to disaster response efforts as well as large-scale food distribution.

“We existed… as an emergency response to supply food to our network of partner agencies, but we also fill service gaps,” said Truesdale. “More service gaps continue to pop up as we have more emergencies.”

Many citizens find themselves in need of the Foodbank’s services due to unforeseen circumstances.

“I can’t work like I used to,” said Preble County Resident Jacob Robinson. “So being able to come here and get good food with a lot of different options is just amazing, and a huge help to a big family like mine.”

The Foodbank also partnered with Premier Health and CareSource Tuesday for a mass food distribution at the Preble County Fairgrounds, as well as offer free health services to interested members of the public. Available services included biometric screenings, blood pressure checks, and hemoglobin A1C testing.

The Dayton Foodbank has regular distributions scheduled for every Wednesday, and can be contacted via their website at https://thefoodbankdayton.org/
