When will Hugh Freeze, Auburn football face Ole Miss in 2023 season?

Auburn football is reportedly finalizing a deal to make Liberty coach Hugh Freeze the Tigers' next head coach, news first reported by Sports Illustrated.

Freeze spent five seasons at SEC West rival Ole Miss as the Rebels' head coach. He took Ole Miss twice to New Year's Six bowl games, the 2014 Peach Bowl and 2015 Sugar Bowl. Freeze resigned before the 2017 season after phone records revealed that he was in contact with an escort service via a university cell phone.

Freeze has spent the last four seasons at Liberty, going 34-15 with four bowl berths.

Auburn and Freeze will host Ole Miss in 2023, scheduled for Saturday, October 21 at Jordan-Hare Stadium. He will face current Rebels coach Lane Kiffin, who was reportedly in the mix for the Auburn job as recent as last week.

The Tigers' 2023 schedule also features a cross-country trip to Cal in September and home games against rivals Georgia and Alabama.

How about Hugh Freeze's return to Oxford with Auburn?

That will wait until 2024 at the earliest, SEC scheduling changes notwithstanding. Freeze did return to Oxford in 2021 with Liberty to face Ole Miss. The Flames lost 27-14.

Historically, the league releases football conference game dates about a year beforehand.
