Hulu's New Watch Party Feature Will Let You Watch Shows Like Grey's Anatomy With Your Friends

Hulu is ready to get into the virtual viewing party game, testing a new feature for some subscribers starting May 29. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hulu Watch Party will allow subscribers to co-view a show or movie with up to eight people. Click here to sign up for Hulu if you don't have the service already.

Currently, the Watch Party option will only be available to those who pay for the $12 a month, no-ads service and every person would need to have the same subscription in order to watch shows like Normal People together.

"People who have access to the test will see a Watch Party icon in the Details page for some shows and movies," THR reported. "Clicking on that icon will create an invite link to share with family and friends. Those who watch together will see a chat function that allows them to share reactions in real time." However, you'll still be able to pause and restart as an individual without changing the settings for everyone else in the group while you run to the bathroom. If you get behind, you will see a "Click to Catch Up" button you can use if you so desire.

Netflix Party and other similar apps and features have become an especially popular app during the quarantine as it allows people to be together for a communal viewing experience without physically, you know, being together. Now you'll be able to cozy up with old Grey's Anatomy or Broad City episodes, Little Fires Everywhere, or one of your many other favorites currently streaming on Hulu and watch with all your besties over a glass of wine and some snacks. The company says "thousands" of choices will be available using the Hulu Watch Party feature.

We suggest starting with some of the titles leaving the service on May 31 before they're gone:

There is currently no word on when the co-viewing option will become available for Hulu subscribers with different plans, like ones supported by commercials. But we imagine if this is successful, they'll figure that out soon enough.
