Human Bean to open Friday

Feb. 28—ASHLAND — The Human Bean will begin serving coffee and other specialty beverages on Friday, March 1, at 6 a.m. in Ashland.

The drive-thru's offerings include specialty-grade coffee, real-fruit smoothies, whole-leaf teas and hot breakfast items.

A Northeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for Friday at 11:30 a.m.

Owners Mike and Bettie Chapman, of Barboursville, West Virginia, say the staff is looking forward to serving the community — all with a signature chocolate-covered espresso bean on top.

This location is the Chapmans' second. Mike Chapman said they are "super excited" to be part of the Ashland community.

"We've got an excited team who have been training and preparing for this grand opening," Chapman said. "They're ready to start sharing the energy here, and serve the friendly faces who come through our drive-thru or walk-up window in Ashland."

The Human Bean has grown from a single location in southern Oregon to a nationwide brand over the last 24 years, according to a news release.

The store will participate in several fundraising events throughout the year, include Coffee for a Cure Day in October. All locations take part in fundraisers every year.
