The Humane Society of Harford County is planning a Kitten Shower

Mar. 1—The Humane Society of Harford County will host a Kitten Shower to prepare for kitten season, the time of year between spring and summer when pregnant and nursing cats and orphaned neonatal kittens flood animal shelters across the nation due to mating season.

"Very soon in Harford County and across the country, thousands of tiny, fragile kittens will enter shelters, and each one of them needs help to survive," said Diana Frederick, the Humane Society for Harford County's alternative placement manager. "The kitten shower is a fun way to raise awareness, familiarize the community with our foster program, and stock our cabinets with all the supplies we need to be ready."

The shower will kickoff March 25 at 1 p.m. at the shelter, 2208 Connolly Road in Fallston, with a Meow-Mosa mocktail toast event including games, door prizes and refreshments. It's also a chance to meet foster parents and sign up for the shelter's foster program.

Admission to the event is a donation from the Humane Society's gift registry, harfordshelter.org/ways-to-give/wish-list. Items on the list include kitten food, non-clumping cat litter, powdered kitten milk replacer and baby bottles.

Gift cards to area pet stores and monetary donations are also appreciated, Frederick said.

If you cannot attend the event, the shelter has a kitten registry on Amazon and Chewy. Donations can be shipped to the shelter at 2208 Connolly Road in Fallston or dropped off at the shelter Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
