Humza Yousaf’s brother-in-law has appeared in court accused of being involved in the supply of heroin.

Ramsay El-Nakla, 36, was allegedly caught dealing the Class A drug along with two other people at an address in Dundee on Jan 11.

Mr El-Nakla, from Kate’s Wynd, Dundee, spent the weekend in custody before appearing briefly on a three-charge petition at Dundee Sheriff Court.

Co-accused Stephen Stewart, 50, and Victoria McGowan, 41, also from Dundee, appeared to face identical charges.

They were also alleged to have been in possession of crack cocaine and cannabis.

All three defendants were alleged to have been concerned in the supply of heroin at 12F Balmoral Gardens in the city on Thursday night when police raided the property.

Around a quarter of a kilogramme of heroin was recovered, with a potential street value estimated by police to be in the region of £6,200.

The trio were also alleged to have been caught in possession of crack cocaine with a street value of £300 and cannabis worth £60.

Case continued for further examination

Ms McGowan was alleged to have been subject to a bail order granted at Dundee Sheriff Court on Sept 22 last year.

None of the three – who appeared individually before Sheriff George Way – entered any plea and the case was continued for further examination.

Mr El-Nakla, Ms McGowan and Mr Stewart were all granted bail by Sheriff Way.

Mr El-Nakla’s sister, psychotherapist Nadia El-Nakla, is the wife of the First Minister and is an SNP councillor on Dundee city council.

She has become a prominent figure in recent months, regularly appearing in the media after her parents were trapped in Gaza during the war with Israel.

After being made aware of her brother’s arrest, Ms El-Nakla said: “I don’t have any comment just now. Let’s see what happens in the next few days.”

Mr Yousaf also declined to comment.

Ms El-Nakla’s parents, Elizabeth and Maged El-Nakla, returned to Scotland in November after being stuck in Gaza for almost a month.

They had travelled there to visit another of their children, a Palestinian doctor called Mohammed, which coincided with Hamas launching its attacks on Israel on October 7.

The family have become outspoken opponents of Israel’s actions, with the First Minister’s wife last week describing attacks on Gaza as a “textbook genocide in real time”.

Although Mohammed’s wife and four children have been allowed to escape to Turkey, he remains in the enclave.

Elizabeth and Maged El-Nakla have since gone to Turkey to support their daughter-in-law.
