AEP begins to restore power to customers in the region

UPDATE: 3/11 1:11 P.M. ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — AEP crews are continuing to make progress this Monday afternoon, and power has been restored to hundreds of customers across Virginia.

However, about 2,831 customers in Virginia are in the dark, and the majority of outages are still in Roanoke County, 604.

Power is still out in the following areas:

  • Amherst County: 61

  • Bedford County: 77

  • Bland County: 193

  • Botetourt County: 86

  • Carroll County: 206

  • Floyd County: 167

  • Franklin County: 183

  • Giles County: 19

  • Grayson County: 348

  • Henry County: 173

  • Montgomery County: 356

  • Pulaski County: 67

  • Roanoke City: 263

  • Wythe County: 67

AEP says customers without power from the storm are expected to have their service restored by late tonight.



UPDATE: 3/11 9:20 A.M. ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — AEP crews are still working to restore power to about 7,199 customers across Virginia on Monday morning.

The majority of outages in Southwest and Central Virginia remain in Roanoke County, 1,504, and Grayson County, 951.

At this time, the following areas are still in the dark:

  • Amherst County: 240

  • Bedford County: 595

  • Bland County: 211

  • Botetourt County: 312

  • Carroll County: 292

  • Floyd County: 319

  • Franklin County: 489

  • Giles County: 157

  • Henry County: 211

  • Wythe County: 147

UPDATE: 3/11 5:44 A.M. ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — As high-gusty winds continue in the region, thousands of AEP customers remain in the dark on Monday, March 11.

Currently, about 7,325 AEP customers in Virginia are experiencing power outages. According to the AEP outage map, the majority of outages are in Roanoke County, 1,443, and Grayson County, 892. Hundreds of customers are also in the dark in the following areas:

  • Amherst County: 128

  • Bedford County: 564

  • Bland County: 210

  • Botetourt County: 312

  • Carroll County: 323

  • Floyd County: 311

  • Franklin County: 486

  • Giles County: 152

  • Henry County: 207

  • Montgomery County: 609

  • Pulaski County: 518

  • Roanoke City: 339

  • Wythe County: 567

Pinpoint Weather: Windy Monday, warm-up ahead

AEP says they hope to have power restored by 4 p.m. on Monday. However, persistent winds can impact restoration times.

The company is reminding customers to treat all downed lines as live power lines and to never touch them.

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)– As high gusts of wind continue to blow through the region, Appalachian Power is reporting multiple widespread power outages in Southwest and Central Virginia.

According to the AEP power outage map, the majority of customers without power are located in Montgomery County and Pulaski County. Here are the current areas without power:
