Hundreds of alcoholic drinks illegally sold by L.A. street vendors seized

Hundreds of alcoholic beverages were seized, and eight people arrested in an operation targeting vendors for the illegal sale of alcohol in the downtown Los Angeles area, authorities announced Monday.

The seizures and arrests happened at Grand Park, located at 200 N. Grand Avenue, and L.A. Live, the popular tourist destination at 800 West Olympic Boulevard.

Images of the seizure posted to X, formerly Twitter by Commander Lillian L. Carranza with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Bureau showed all manner of alcoholic drinks, including beer, tequila, whiskey, hard sodas, teas and lemonades.

Carranza said the illegal sale of alcohol is particularly dangerous because the vendors are not licensed by the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

“They do not ID minors, no business or taxes license. Interfering with pedestrian and vehicular traffic,” she said.

The LAPD commander added that vendors illegally selling alcoholic beverages also face no accountability for overserving customers, those who might be drunk in public or drivers under the influence.
