Hundreds attend vigil for Sussex Central student killed in car accident

More than 200 people showed their love Friday night for Kyle Kee, the 17-year-old Sussex Central High School junior who was killed in a car accident on Nov. 26.

Many who spoke described Kee as a happy, fun-loving optimist who was always able to brighten your day.

"He was very optimistic. He was very down to earth," said a friend, 19-year-old Chloe Richardson. "You could just talk to him about anything and everything. He could make you laugh at the most serious moments."

"His energy was just something that you wanted to be around," said 18-year-old Brandon Johnson.

Kee was the front-seat passenger in a Subaru being driven by a 17-year-old Frankford male on Nov. 26, according to Delaware State Police, when it struck a truck at Sycamore and Beaver Dam Branch roads in Laurel.

He was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Kee lived in Millsboro and was the son of Richard and Lisa Kee. He had an older brother and a younger sister.

His aunt, Kerin Lusenskas, said Kyle Kee enjoyed video games and spending time with friends.

He also loved Arizona ice tea. And it was no secret, judging from the many cans placed at a makeshift memorial for him.

He was a car enthusiast, too, according to his godmother, Elaine Gonzalez.

About 200 people gathered at a candlelight vigil for 17-year-old Kyle Kee at Sussex Central High School in Georgetown Friday, Dec. 3, 2021.

"He was always happy. He was really outgoing," Gonzalez said.

Lusenskas said he was "the goofball of the family."

Lisa Kee spoke at the Friday night vigil outside the Georgetown-area high school as a slideshow of photos and videos of her son played on a screen.

"I didn't realize how much he was loved," she said. "I appreciate every last one of you because you guys made him who he was, the entertainer that he was."
