Hundreds of children return to Dollywood Splash Country for Water Safety Day

Over 300 children rushed into the wave pool at Dollywood Splash Country on Thursday for the park's Water Safety Day. The annual event returned this year after a hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic to educate children on pool safety and to raise awareness about drowning.

Heads bobbed in and out of the water as instructor Jackie Bertucci, aquatics director at the Knoxville Racquet Club, led children through swim exercises like blowing bubbles, treading water and floating.

"Skills like that can save your life," said Amber Davis, new media and digital publicist with Dollywood.

The free 30-minute event was part of the World's Largest Swimming Lesson held at other pools and water parks around the globe.
