Hundreds of new jobs added, but more needed

Mar. 29—Rockwall County added more than 400 jobs between January and February, but the supply didn't meet the demand for work, leading to an increase in the county's unemployment rate.

Still, Rockwall County had more people on the job last month than during any other February in the county's history, according to the report issued March 24 by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).

Rockwall County's unemployment rate was at 4% in February, compared to 3.7% in January and 3.6% in February 2022.

Unemployment in Rockwall County stood at 5.3% in February 2021 and 2.9% in February 2020.

There were 58,692 people reported as employed in the county during February, an increase of 406 jobs since January and 2,129 more since the same point one year earlier.

The February employment total was the highest ever reported for the month.

A total of 2,472 people filed for unemployment in Rockwall County last month, an increase of 237 since January and 357 more than in February of last year.

The county's civilian labor force rose by 643 people between January and February and by 2,486 people in the past year.

Statewide, TWC reported the Texas civilian labor force increased by 64,800 people, which marked the largest monthly increase since September 2020.
