Hundreds to ‘Scale the STRAT’ in Las Vegas to raise money for those who can’t

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Nearly a thousand people are expected to ascend the famous Las Vegas skyline feature known as The STRAT to help those who struggle with lung disease.

“Scale the STRAT” is a major Nevada fundraiser for the American Lung Association’s Fight for Air Climb.

Making up 108 floors is no easy feat. It’s 1,455 steps to get to the top which is more than 800 feet above the Las Vegas Strip. Climbers are scheduled to go at different times and will enter the stairwell individually and be timed.

Climbers will start at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25, and go until about noon. The average climber will take anywhere from 7 to 40 minutes. The world record was set in 2023 when Wai Ching Soh of the Malaysia Tower Running Association completed the climb in 6 minutes and 46 seconds. He beat the record he set as the 2022 winner by 11 seconds.

“We can’t wait to welcome stair climbers from all over the world, as well as locals, who look forward to “Scale the STRAT” each year,” said Stephen Thayer, vice president and general manager of The STRAT Hotel, Casino & Tower.

You can still participate in the climb. Registration is now $50 with a $200 minimum fundraising effort. So far, the event has raised $215K with a goal of more than $300K. The money raised helps fund the 120-year-old nonprofit’s mission to save lives by preventing lung disease and promoting lung health through education, advocacy, and research.
