Hungarian foreign minister in Minsk for talks, promoting ‘peaceful position’ on Russia’s war

Szijjártó said in a Facebook post on Feb. 13 that "there is no peace without negotiations," and that "the war in Ukraine is getting tougher, and human lives need to be saved," although he did not mention Russia, which unleashed it.

On arriving in Minsk, he met with Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergei Aleynik and promised to present a "position of peace" at the talks in Minsk.
"Obviously, many people will attack me because of my visit, but our position is clear: we need to keep the channels of communication open," Szijjártó wrote.
“If we did not behave in this way, I would not have been able to convey the message of appeal to peace today either.”

The Hungarian FM visited Moscow twice after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and also went to Sochi in Russia.
The ministry said it favored a dialogue with Russia, while Prime Minister Viktor Orban has repeatedly made outrageous statements about Ukraine and has refused to hand over weapons to Kyiv or let them pass through his country.
Ukraine has appealed to the international community to isolate the aggressor countries Russia and Belarus.
