Hungary’s Orban praises Russia and blasts EU during rally

Orban reportedly vowed to oppose extending EU sanctions against Russia this fall. While he is currently alone in his pro-Moscow stance, Orban said the new Italian government could become an ally in this regard.

According to the PM, the EU is “shooting itself in the foot,” as Russia sanctions could cause “40% of EU industry to shut down” this winter.
After former German Chancellor Angela Merkel has left the political arena, “Europe no longer has a leader who defends the continent’s interests,” Orban said.
He added that the EU will collapse by 2030, and “Muslim migrants” will become a majority in France.

Orban described the Russian invasion of Ukraine as a “local conflict,” which was expanded by Western meddling. According to him, the war will last until 2030 and will see Ukraine losing up to half of its territory.
The European Parliament voted for a resolution on Sept. 15 to brand Hungary as a “electoral autocracy,” citing changes made by the Orban administration that have practically concentrated executive, legislative, and judicial power all under Orban’s Fidesz party’s wings.
