'If you are hungry, we are here': El Caldito Soup Kitchen provides traditional Thanksgiving meal

LAS CRUCES - El Caldito Soup Kitchen is providing a traditional meal at no charge for anyone in the community on Thanksgiving Day.

"If you are hungry, we are here," said Laura Alvarado, the office administrator and volunteer coordinator for the soup kitchen, which provides meals for the indigent year round.

Volunteers to prepare the Thanksgiving meal are welcome, Alvarado said. She said volunteers can help out all day Wednesday or Thursday morning. Volunteers should call 575-525-3831 in advance, but the soup kitchen won't turn anyone away if they show up at the door to help, Alvardo said.

On Thursday, volunteers will be preparing the meal from 8 to 11 a.m. and dinner will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Alvarado said the El Caldito plans to serve around 300 people this year.

El Caldito Soup Kitchen is within Mesilla Valley Community of Hope at 999 W. Amador Ave.
