Hungry? Volusia County will offer free breakfast, lunch for children this Summer
One free program has launched and another will be starting soon to feed children over the summer in Volusia County.
Starting Monday, Volusia County Schools will be offering free breakfast and lunch on weekdays at its School Way Cafés in 40 schools.
Most of the cafés will operate starting on Monday, June 12, and continuing through Thursday, July 27. Four will run through August 3. Times vary at different locations but can be found using the Summer BreakSpot search tool.
Also, Volusia County's Community Assistance Division has already launched a Summer Food Service Program with funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide free breakfast and lunch to people 18 years old and under.
The program started on Monday, June 5, and will last through Aug. 11, according to a county news release. Some sites will end the program earlier. There is no income requirement. People just need to show up to get food.
The sites will serve meals Monday through Friday unless otherwise listed and they will be closed on July Fourth, according to the county. Most sites are open to anyone. But five sites are open only to people enrolled in programs there. Those sites are listed separately below.
