Hunter Biden wades into impeachment fight

Hunter Biden is stepping down from the board of Chinese private equity firm BHR.

The son of former Vice President Joe Biden broke the news in a statement from his attorney on Sunday (October 13).

It's the first time Hunter has spoken out since becoming the target of accusations from President Donald Trump.

Trump has hinted the Bidens had corrupt dealings in Ukraine and China and even urged Beijing to investigate Hunter.

He hasn't yet provided any evidence of wrongdoing.

The younger Biden didn't give a reason for leaving BHR, but said he would be leaving by the end of October.

Joe Biden responded to the news with a fiery defense of his work in Ukraine and his family.

"I never ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever had a conversation with my son about anything that I was doing. The statement my son put out today which I saw when he put it out. I was told it was being put out. I did not consultant with what was being put out. In fact represents the kind of man of integrity he is."

Biden also appeared to level a shot at Donald Trump and his family.

"No one in my family will have an office in the White House, will sit in meetings as if they're a cabinet member, will in fact have any business relationship with anyone that relates to a foreign corporation or a foreign country. Period. Period. End of story."

Trump's efforts to get Ukraine to investigate the Bidens led Democrats to open an impeachment inquiry in September.

That investigation is likely to pick up steam this coming week with Congress back in Washington Monday (October 14) after a two-week break.
