The mothers are mothering, and now, Hunter Schafer is joining them!

Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer has joined the already excellent cast of David Lowery’s upcoming A24 film Mother Mary. She joins Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel in the “epic pop melodrama” following a fictional musician (Hathaway) and her relationship with an iconic fashion designer (Coel).

Schafer’s role is said to be that of Hilda, the assistant to Coel’s designer character, Sam.

In case you weren’t already sold, pop masters Jack Antonoff and Charli XCX are writing and producing original songs for the film, presumably sung by Hathaway’s pop star.

While we aren’t sure yet, the tease of Hathaway and Coel playing superstars in their careers who have a “relationship” has fans on the internet hoping to gay Jesus that the movie will be a gay love story between the two. And if it is, we will be forever thankful.

Coel recently played gay (at least technically) in 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In the film, she played Aneka, a member of the Dora Milaje who has a relationship with Ayo, played by Florence Kasumba. The relationship was shown through a kiss on the forehead in the movie. Hopefully, she’ll get to do a lot more than that in Mother Mary.

Schafer has a ton of projects lined up for the next couple years. In addition to starring on HBO’s Euphoria, she’s starring in the upcoming thriller Cuckoo with Dan Stevens and Jessica Henwick, and in the Hunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes alongside Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, Viola Davis, and Peter Dinklage.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes releases in theaters November 17, 2023.
